The Old Folks Home

chicka, sorry about your friend getting burglarized. There is a bad feeling of having been violated that accompanies being burglarized. It's not just about the items taken, or the mess left behind, but the knowledge that someone has violated your personal space, your place of refuge from the world. It's unsettling.

Years ago, I had bought 3 good security camera systems. We've used them on all the places we've lived through the years. Dh wants to put cameras up, but he wants to upgrade our system, instead of putting up the old system. I agree. He's also been researching, and can power the remote ones with solar, for a fairly reasonable cost. I still want him to put my fence, and gate back up. He's against it, but I don't care, I want it.

So true Clue. Unsettling is the perfect word. That's exactly what we talked about yesterday afternoon when he called me. He was surprised that he wasn't able to sleep. He hadn't realized how much it was affecting him. He knew I understood because I had been robbed while I was asleep in my bed when I first moved to Milwaukee and was all too aware of the emotional rollercoaster you go thru. Like him I was too bullheaded to have been afraid but it's still the idea your personal safe place had been violated, your treasures were taken (regardless of monetary value) what if they return and do even worse damage, and a ton of emotions you can't easily identify because you've never felt them before. He called under the pretext of something else and I knew it, he just needed to talk. I mostly just listened and let him sort things out in his brain, for a very long time, but it was mostly "I never realized" "I never understood what people felt" "I can't focus on fixing the door" "why did they have to take that" "why did they leave this"etc. He had eventually went full circle and said talking it out with someone he knew understood really helped. That made me feel like I had done at least something for our friend. I understood best how hard it was for this very intelligent, independent, strong man to admit how out of control he felt and I felt honored that he trusted me that much.

So glad that I don't have to worry about slogging my way to work through ice and snow any longer. My worst excursion is getting out to take care of the chooks or us getting out to the barn to stock up on firewood during inclement weather. I make sure to stay stocked up on food and medicine during the winter months as we can plan on up to three days after a weather event before the township snow plow show up to dig us out.

One of the cashiers at the local grocery store once told me that she got a kick out of the people who live in town that flood the store buying a cart load of groceries when they hear there there is going to be an inch of snow on the ground. Most of them she said, lived within walking distance of the store.

Makes you wonder what would happen to them in the event of a real emergency.

@superchemicalgirl 'Bah humbug'? Do I sense a bit of holiday burn out? Sounds like somebody needs a hug.:hugsHow did your staff like their gift pillowcases?

I have to admit, I spent about 15 minutes looking for those silly candy canes. When I finally found them I also found snow men, Santa hats, snow flakes.

Thanks administrators. Very festive!

I went to 2 drs this week, both were supposed to send in Rxs. The pharmacy has nothing!:thIt just kills me because when i worked i did that job and made sure they were all done in a timely manner. I was last out the door every Friday getting those done. :barnie

I deal with that from my doctor's office on occasion also and I agree. No excuse for it. Once I got hold of my doc's nurse/manager and asked him who I had to bribe in order to get my prescription called in after one trip to town and three calls to the pharmacy plus calls to them from the pharmacy. I think they got the message as things got better after that.

I always had prescriptions called in or faxed before the patient left the office so I could tell them that their RX was waiting for them at their pharmacy. Patients appreciate stuff like that and brings them back to your business.
