interesting observations got rid of all metal feeders only use plastic now going to go the garbage feeder concept with 3 in openings I have the tall ones but do not feed real great think I can use fitting as they are three inches but black

I like plastic feeders and water fountains but have to keep them out of the sun. They last about a year here before falling apart otherwise.

Plastic waterers. What's even more curious is that all three of the roosters in that coop are blessed with really big combs and wattles but his are the only ones that are looking like those ummmmmm dangly bits that people like to hang from their trailer hitches.

I am sorry about that!

I use vertical nipple water fountains. I make them myself from food grade buckets. It is possible that he drinks just before roosting or is in a spot with less ventilation?

I find the ones with large thin front edges on their wattles. .... they just have to freeze and fall off. luckily it only needs to happen once.

All yesterday and all night long it has been blowing like a beast and raining all over my nice white snow.

Still raining this morning... and still blowing hard. Sounds a bit more like sleet though.

I am.glad you keep raving on the naked necks... because I need to hear it.

It still blows my mind that the naked flesh doesnt just freeze.

Still amazes me! Weeks of subzero now, was -14F actual temp a few mornings ago and highs in the singles to teens everyday and not a bit of frostbite yet even on the roosters big comb or wattles, none!! Not to mention the bare skin everywhere else lol. They amazed me last yr and it was a lot warmer. It's like they don't even realize it's painfully cold outside , crazy chickens.

SIL doing real good, speech coming back, still not home yet but we think soon.
