The Old Folks Home

Welcome back, Mary. Glad to hear that the shoulder is doing better, Cynthia.

Cap, sorry to hear you have a hen not doing well. Mine are surprising me. I have a few that are thinner than they should be, then there are the three with Ocular Marek's. I keep looking at them and asking them why they are still alive and they just bawk bawk at me and shuffle on.

I'm beginning to think the hog feed with copper in it that I've been mixing with their finisher crumbles is actually doing some good. I had an Amish farmer recommend it to me one day. Being a card carrying skeptic about just about anything the Amish recommend, I looked it up and sure enough, the hog pellets have lower protein to offset the high protein finisher crumbles and contains copper which in chickens is antimicrobial. The way I see it, anything that will prevent birds with Marek's from getting sick is worth a try.

Plus it's about 7 dollars for a 50 pound bag..........

Very interesting!
I wonder if your mareks weakens them and then a fungal infection kills them.

Copper is used to treat fungal infections

We used to contact the paper so that they would know when we were going out, and they would take photos and do a piece..... haven't done that the last few years. Huh... I wonder if I can remember to contact them in time next year. :old

Put it on your google calendar to alert you. That's the only way I remember to do things.

Got all my animal's shots, frontline, when to check/call for oil, etc.

Otherwise, oh look, a chicken.
