The Old Folks Home

"I used to dread hitting 60. Now I guess I have accepted it's coming sooner than I would like so I am now looking forward to it for some crazy reason. :lau"
"I understand I will be there before long also"

Ditto. I'm hitting it this year with mixed feelings. Kind of like do I want to stay here and have a big party to celebrate or do I want to run away to a foreign country and pretend I'm 51-and-change for a while longer? I have accepted the aging bit; in fact, even welcome the naps without having to make some pithy explanation. Still get kind of funny whenever anybody offers me a sr. discount that I hadn't asked for, though. Sigh....

I love to try to grow ginormous things, but I'm rarely successful.

  • If there is no agreement in the Senate, the federal government will enter into a partial shutdown at midnight.
  • In the event of a shutdown, Social Security and disability checks will still go out.
It would help if we had a longer growing season and more daylight lol.
I'm mostly unsuccessful also though I did get some nice fat mammoth red mangle beets, not as big as they can get but the chickens chomp them down anyway.
My 2nd cousin grows those Atlantic giant pumpkins every yr here, the one's that you have to have a dozen people to load or a forklift. His kids win competitions the last few yrs, just like the one's you see on tv.
I tried just big moon pumpkins a couple times and crap. I do better with regular field or howden pumpkins, basketball size is huge for us lol.

I WOULD suggest NOT doing that ;) I would also suggest you not put your hand under the saw (to see how strong the dust collector is pulling) before the blade stops. No, not me, a guy I worked with years back. Came in to a meeting with his hand all bandaged and said "Hi, I'm Mike and I used to do wood working". He was lucky, no permanent damage.

They said SS wouldn't be affected. Nor the PO (because it has a different funding source). National parks would be open this time around, but the trash cans wouldn't be emptied and the bathrooms wouldn't be open :thRight like we are going to hold it all day??

Safety glasses are cool! I was cutting on a old table saw a piece of wood fabricating trim on our old unsquare nothing level house and using a piece of wood to push for safety. Hit the safety glasses like a bullet!! I don't normally wear any unless I'm grinding metal or working under a car to keep dirt out of my eyes . So glad I had them on (probably had them on cause of circular saw saw dust lol)

Mine has a kick back guard but safety glasses are a good idea, even though i wear regular glasses all the time.
