The Old Folks Home

As for the German desserts, there are numerous varieties of cookies and pastries as well as cakes and "pies"... Strudels, and breakfast rolls, lots of fruit type desserts with cherries and apples predominating... Virtually every authentic one that I've ever tasted has NOT been sweet by American standards. That's NOT to say that they haven't been tasty/good, just not all that sweet. The French and Italians have a much larger affinity for sweets and sugar. Just my experience.

got home today ... Surgery took 5 hours with an hour before and an hour after for anesteshia an recovery.

We are in the middle of a flue eppidemic. So I woke up in Recovery and spent the day inj recovery waiting for a room. Finallly got a room around midnight. Spentt the nex day in hospital working on getting to pee. and getting up on my own. Doc didnt like anything about my recovery... blood pressur too high, oxygen too low, Blood sugar too high.

Woke up oritginally on a Cpap macine with oxygen aded... plus a machine that was a legg massager... My first day i spent in a sitting position and still on the operating table....

They moved me to a regular bedwith a hover craft arrangement... Cpap and massagesr and all. while iwas in the recovery room I drwe one of the nurses a horse. Its on their wall now.

They finally moved me to the hospital and I got to sleep finally. Two long twelve hour stretches...

They said it was because of the Cpap machine....

I am stillhurting... and wobbly and achyu but at least i am home.

devd

Glad your home but darn the hurt needs to end and you will be well Please

deb, thanks for the update. I know it's rough after surgery, but you will heal. Try to walk a bit, just before it's time to take your next pain pill, then settle down, and take your pain pill. The walking helps get you out of pain faster, and helps your circulation so you heal faster.

I TOTALLY agree!!
What have you seen

We spent the first night with family friends (same one with the wedding) then I got to drive the bus from Frankfurt to Dresden. barf. :sick Luckily, since we got here, we just walked every where (we rented an apartment for the 8 days we will be in Dresden). I did have to drive last night and this morning to get us to church. .. blasted city driving. one intersection had so many different traffic lights...I thought I was supposed to go when I wasn't. .. then I started to drive down a tram way ...had to back up and get back on the car road. :barnie Luckily the car is now PARKED again. whew!

We have been walking about looking at the city. .. we went to 1 museum the first day.. the traffic museum. Awesome! Antique cars and bikes and trains!!

Next day we went to the Historical Gruenes Gewölbe. Fancy antique tresury of the Kings of Saxony. Saxony was a powerful kingdom for hundreds of years. The residence palace of Saxony was built in 14-something and has been wonderfully restored after its destruction in WW2.

cool stuff

IME German desserts are great, but not "sweet" like American desserts. Hope you get to enjoy a whole lot of them with your "continental" breakfasts...

The great stuff with German everything (beer, dessert, and food) it varies GREATLY from one town to the next. So... one place will produce desserts that are mostly whipped cream, the next will produce desserts that are mostly yogurt based, etc. pretty fun.

Dresden being a big town serves a bit of everything. So we have been eating the normal German meal of assorted bread rolls with soft cheese to spread on the bread and then lots of sliced sausage. :drool
