The Old Folks Home

I got food poisoning at a Chic Fillet once. We went there with friends for dinner and I had a chicken wrap, lettuce, strip chicken wrapped in a flour tortilla. It was good but I barely made it back home and to the bathroom. I had all the symptoms of a mild food poisoning. It lasted for three days. When I looked the restaurant up on the internet, this particular Chic Fillet had reports of people getting sick after eating there. I avoid them like poison now.

Wow, sorry to hear that Micro. I actually really like Chic Fillet sandwiches. One of the best chicken sandwiches I've had actually. I also like that the owners follow their convictions and beliefs and remain closed on Sundays. But I completely understand. I had the same thing happen at a Beni Hana's and will never eat at one again. On top of the sickness, the food was over priced, poor quality, and lacking in quantity.

In re: dogs. I used to breed and show Cockers. For the most part they were very enjoyable as puppies, and the adults didn't act like perpetual children. The most I had at one time was 14 adults and 13 puppies from several litters.
I've heard/read that dogs are "arrested development" over wild canines like wolves. They are perpetual "puppies". While wild canines depend on parents to mature, once they are grown, as adults, they become hierarchical with alpha and beta animals and live in that structure. Puppies as they grow learn that they can always depend on their human to assist them when needed.

I saw intelligence tests between dogs and wolves where they had to work through "puzzles"/challenges to get to food. While the wolves got more and more stressed out and angry, the dogs quickly turned to their humans to help them solve the problem. IMHO that shows more intelligence than the wolves.

Well I survived the trip into town. Seems as though every person over the age of 60 was buying groceries today. I only heard one person trying to hack up a lung about three isles away from me.

Talking about the flu epidemic in Missouri with the cashier. She said she hadn't gotten a flu shot either but was hearing that the shot wasn't covering this flu that everyone is getting. Now that's really reassuring.

NOT!

I really cannot remember a time where I haven't had a dog in my life. It may be because I couldn't have kids and they are my substitute children that keep perpetuating themselves in my life but idunno. We have four right now. The oldest is almost 14. Our Dingo is winding down from the degenerative myelopathy at 10 and the two brats are 5. I wish I had a portion of their energy, the youngest ones that is. I agree about dogs, @Latestarter. Around here not only is pet hair woven through the fabric of our lives but it's also a condiment with our peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches. While the dog hair seems to get on everything, the cat hair seems to present itself in ever growing hair balls.

They have strip joints in malls now?
When we go to a local strip mall once a week, at least there is a Sam's club and can get a hot dog combo for $ 1.64 - that's living it up for me. Well for now anyway, they have already closed 7 Sam's clubs in the area.

One near my brother has closed and they told him the nearest one. Well it's quite a distance so he won't go. The second closest is in another state. Hello, why don't they refund membership fees?

Oh, sorry Chicka... my flu happened right after Christmas, over New Years. I'm all better now. IV antibiotics pretty much did wonders for every issue I had.

That's good.
I did get the flu shot and it never helps me. I get the flu every year! I'm not getting any more flu shots.

So sorry you are suffering puppy regret. Is there any chance you could give her back to her original owner? If you're not meant to be a dog person, you're just not.

I had it and waited (5 days after onset) as I had my kid and his family here (they left <I asked them to> to avoid getting it) and was in no shape to go to the ER. 3 days in bed. Result was I ended up with massive UTI and in stage 3 renal failure. They wanted to admit me and I refused because of my animals. Went back the next day for after care. Long story short, 2 days of IV fluids and IV antibiotics followed by a 5 day course of antibiotics. I recovered and am fine, but it's nothing to mess around with! Get treatment, get rest, & don't forget, even if you don't feel up to moving, LOTS of fluids!

First flu I've had in over 40 years and I DON'T get a flu shot.

ETA: had to re-edit multiple times as I used the multi quote and it put everything inside the quoted text window. PITA to fix.
I am very happy that you recovered!

I keep reading about people in their 20s to 40s dying within three days from this flu.

I already posted the CDC recommendation to go get Tamaflu if you have the flu. Apparently you need to insist sometimes

LS I hope you get well quickly.

This flu is bad! I thought I was over it and then it came back worse twice!
I kept taking nausea, tylenol and sinus meds every 4 hours!
That is about all you can do. I thought i might be getting better but then i found my dead chicken.
