The Old Folks Home

Punching is something no one would survive in my presence never mind hitting me.... Just talking about it is a deal breaker for me...

Funny thing is I am attracted to the "Bad Boys" in alot of ways. But Its the Smart ones I want but have no clue to how to get to know some. Come across a few that fit the bill but Cross smart with bad and you get substance abusers. Fell in love with one once... and it was my last.

I thought of joining Mensa... but I am a hair too low on the scale. Engineering clubs are around but I dont have a degree. Other clubs are too physical... hiking, diving, cross country, camping,...

Thought of starting a carriage service in my little town. Horse is a froot looop.... :gig:rant:lau

My land is my love, Solitude is my friend, Sky is my miracle, Air is the breath of the earth. someone that understands that... and likes me... sigh.

:hugs deb, You are one of the few people I know that has an "engineering brain" and is able to so eloquently express yourself. A rare combination. Don't let the fact that you've not found some one that appreciates the unique, incredible you, make you believe that it cannot happen.

I try.... cant get past the home life hurdle right now... Sixty two years now... in June will be Sixty Three. Have to put yourself out there to meet new people... Trying to distill the best options because I wont have alot of time per outing.

Mom and dad met when He ran over her little dog on his motorcycle. At the time he looked like James Dean. She was coming off a scandoulus episode from a former boyfriend who told the whole school. He was coming off a relationship where the girls Daddy said NO and he wasnt good enough for her.

Mom and dad married within three months. He went off to the army she followed. East coast where he Taught Machine shop. They lived in Boston for about two years and they came back where he went back to work at the Junk yard.

Junk yard owner wanted to leave the junk yard to dad in his will. Mom said no... So Dad went to work for Convair. Wed be millionairs by the time I started highschool if shed lefthim alone. But instead we moved to Roswell NM where dad was part of the engineering team that put in the missile silos all over new Mexico...

Then we moved to Vegas and dad went to Area 51 which was part of the atomic test site... His silo experience and open minded hunger to learn was his strog point. From there we moved to San Diego.

Where he worked two jobs... Machine shop work and Design work for aerospace...

We werent millionairs.... But he fulfilled all his desires in his life by being free to choose.

I dont think mom realizes what she did for him in th elong run

He passed before their 50th anniversary... and I believe thier sixtieth would be today if I am not mistaken

Engineering clubs are around but I don't have a degree.
And that matters why? Are they all uppity about the degree, not interested in just spending time doing engineering things with others who like to do engineering things? If so, how "middle school clic", I wouldn't want to spend time with THEM! ;)

Exactly... Its me that is intimidated though..... but I would so enjoy the projects... Brainstorming I am a lateral thinker so my off the wall comments sometimes spark intense conversations. I grew up with "There is no such thing as Cant"

One time I was given the task of separating a curved circuit board.... the detach points were skillfully placed in an arc to mimic the board. it was a night mare to separate from the rest of the card. They wanted a die cutting device... very precise very complicated to build and it would have worked.

I suggested moving the detatch points to hit a grid... then natural separation methods of detatchment could be used... No special toooling or training. "WE CANT ALTER THE CIRCUIT CARD" Flat out statement from a PHD in mechanical engineering.... :th..
I thought Sure you can... But held my tongue.

Yep I made enough comments like that in the course of my employment there to accumulate a 'Layed off" status. Oh well.

Deb, at our age (OK, yours, I'm only 61 (for < 1 more month) :lau) it is WAY too late to be intimidated by someone's past accomplishment. Those the same age as you got that degree when? Right 1977 or so. That was so long ago it means only that they were able to learn and regurgitate the material 40 years ago. Even if they got a PhD it was 36 years ago. So what? :D
