The Old Folks Home

Y'all have been busy little bumble bees.

I had an exciting day. I did spring cleaning on two refrigerators. I can just open the door and hear something growl back at me from inside before I have to bite the bullet and grab the rubber gloves and bucket.

Chickens and dogs love fridge clean out day. Me, I'm just glad to have it done. I do regular clean outs, but deep cleaning isn't one of my favorite activities. I belong to the Erma Bombeck school of Domestic Goddessdom. She said any woman who pulls out the frig more than once a year is lying... or insane....or needs a psyche eval or something like that.

Any how gotter done. Then I transplanted my squash, pumpkin and tomato plants. Rose of Sharon just coming up, and planted a package of Lavender. Never tried to grow lavender before. Hope it germinates.

micro, when they brought all the new appliances, I asked the guy taking out the old, putting in the new to bear with me, as I wanted to clean before he put the new ones in. He laughed. I guess every woman on the planet only cleans the area under appliances when they get moved out. The old ones were what was here when we bought the place, and I never moved them. I had no idea what I'd find. To my pleasant surprise, it was not really dirty under them.

@ronott1 do you know of any bantam that lays a nice dark egg?

Just wondering.
I am not very much into bantams but there are both dwarf and bantam marans along with Welsummer bantams

Bantam Marans?

I looked for Marans and Welsummers...

A FEW People are working on bantam Marans, but not many people and the project is at the beginning stages. ... so, nothing there..

There are more bantam Welsummers available, even a few hatcheries carry them. Most don't have pictures of the eggs. The one hatchery that did show egg photos, the eggs were LIGHT brown. They looked like Dominique eggs. :hu Disappointing.

Penedesenca are small large fowl chickens and lay very dark eggs.

Cocks have fairly large combs but you could manage them. Hens would be fine since their combs are not that large.

Good feed conversion to egg production too. Much better than the big old marans. My Marans ate almost as much as the Bresse!

yep, that is why I got out of Marans, genetic issues, they ate a huge amount, and laid very few eggs.

I wish the Penedesenca were easier to come by.
