And here I thought that corned beef WAS the meat in "New England Boiled Dinner"Anyway, throw that in a deep stock pot and get it up to a boil then add the cabbage, carrots, potatoes and you'll have a New England boiled dinner. Can also sub a corned beef in place of the ham. I really like the taste of the pork fat with the veggies though. Haven't had corned beef in decades... Really need to get one and make this.
Exactly, it isn't more expensive than a lot of roasts. I ended up buying an "expensive" one for my annual "Corned beef and cabbage" dinner (no one else in the house will eat it) because the cheap one had nitrates. Even then I don't think it was more than $6-$7/pound. I got the smallest they had, about 2.5 pounds. DD2's BF was here (now back in Peru), he had never had it. He had seconds, some people are easier to feed than others.Hubby usually makes corned beef in March. This year he said it was too expensive. Heck, once a year... go for it! I am going to buy some if i can find it.
Give DD1 a notebook and a pen. She can take notes while you work.I'm so guilty of this.DD1 keeps telling me to write mine down, but I just sort of eyeball stuff & it changes slightly depending on whats in the house. Rushing to get them fed every night doesn't help either.
That is the only way I can feed a pork chop to DW. She won't touch a pork chop without the sauerkraut. We make pork chops cooked in sauerkraut, not a huge fan but OK once in awhile.
