The Old Folks Home

Happy National Pigs in a Blanket Day, y'all.

The radio program we listen to in the morning announces the national day(s) each morning. I haven't had pigs in a blanket in forever, so I asked BF to make them for me. He was kinda silent for a few seconds and then I said I thought we had most of the ingredients, but could stop for a cabbage on the way home.

The conversation went downhill from there.

Apparently Americans think that pigs in a blanket involve some kind of hot dog in bread thing. Apparently my immigrant family brought "pigs in a blanket" over and we never converted. Clearly the ground meat and spices wrapped in a cabbage and covered in a tomato sauce is far superior to hot dogs.

I haven't felt like this in a long time - the last time I recall was using a word in elementary school to describe something that was apparently not an English word. I HAD NO IDEA.

Likewise. Uggh.

Both type of pigs in a blanket are a winner to me!

:pop Which version are you getting?

I love cabbage rolls, never heard them called pigs in a blanket though lol.
When I was a kid Mom would make pigs in a blanket with little smokies wrapped in bread, wrapped in bacon and baked, much better than those one's people make just wrapped in crescent rolls. Crescent rolls are not meant for that lol.
Reminds me, I had Angels on horseback once yrs ago. Think I'll try making some myself. Oysters wrapped in bacon and baked or grilled, mmm.

Long day here. I finally got the main coop cleaned out. Groan. Every muscle in my shoulders and legs is screaming for mercy, but I got it done. Tomorrow the 9 youngsters go out to live with the big chickens. Their grow out pen and all. I have to admit, I'm going to miss them in the hobby room, especially in the morning when the little cockerels try to crow.

My broody is down to three eggs. I had candled at 6 days and thought I saw signs of development in all of the 4 eggs that she is sitting on. Candled last night and only saw veining and development in three eggs. Pulled the egg that looked clear and cracked it. Sure enough, no development. Don't know what happened, but three is a good number.

Beautiful day here. The peach trees are blooming...finally! It was close to 75 here today. I'm lovin it!

@superchemicalgirl, I cannot believe that Ripley is 6 months old all ready! Poor baby. Hope they sent her home with some pain medicine. She has to be plenty sore.
