Idk if he was vaccinated, i rather doubt it but planned to ask when i pick him up. I heard the vaccine was mostly ineffective any way.Morning all! Sun is shining here. The trees are popping out leaves like crazy. Everything is beautiful after two days of rain. Suddenly spring is happening here!
My big complaint about spell check is medical terms. No spellchecker will tell you that whatever I have typed is a real word and some of the suggestions are just plain hysterical.
@CapricornFarm. I know how you feel. I have had the one broody this spring and I'm hoping to break all the others that may pop up. I just want to keep the numbers down so I can see what happens next. I know I have three birds showing active signs of Marek's disease. Two more with OM and one that just isn't acting right. Two are male one is female. The one that isn't acting right has a swollen leg from hock to toes. No bumblefoot, just this weird swollen leg that reminds me of people I've taken care of with congestive heart failure. He isn't wheezing or gurgling when he breathes nor is he short of breath although he just acts lethargic and is sleeping a lot. So he is added to the list. My last Welsummer rooster.
I cannot blame you for trying and wish you the best of luck with your SS rooster.Do you know if he has been vaccinated?
Plans for today: Do more yard work. Plant more flowers, get mamma Daisy and her three little ones moved to the grow out pen after kicking out the 10 and 5 week old juveniles.
I'm expecting chaos when that happens as one of the SDW cockerels had attitude that is twice the size he is. One of the older OEGB cross hens got mad at him one day when I had them out cleaning because he dared to 'look' at her (you know how hens can get) and she pecked at him. He was all over her like ugly on an ape.
I'm expecting him to fight his way to the top in record time and with maximum loss of feathers, LOL.
Do you have that shift once a month? No sleep for me. This 3:30pm-3:30am shift is killing me, I hate night shifts to begin with even 8hrs.
Sleep hopefully 5am if I can then up at 6 get kids ready for school bus at 7, take care of chickens and hopefully if I can get sleeping by 8, up by noon cause that's the best I have been able to do all week I'm not a vampire. Weeks almost over....
I hope it all calms down for you!Morning all! Sun is shining here. The trees are popping out leaves like crazy. Everything is beautiful after two days of rain. Suddenly spring is happening here!

Some cocks have very nice tails! It also thinks I should never type cock, just cocktail .
Thanks Misty and Ron. Yes, this morning is better/busy. I got the fence reinforced and kicked the juvies out of the grow out pen. Mamma and the three tinies relocated to the grow out pen. Mom was happily scratching around when I left and the Juvies were trying to figure out how to get back home.....and failing, not to mention trying to stay out of the hen's way.
More mowing this afternoon and hopefully no more bunny massacres.![]()
