The Old Folks Home

Continuously, @Beer can. I love to write though.

DH and I took off to the woods for a walk this afternoon. Found 5 ticks on me so far.:rantStill feel creepy crawly.

I read this week that it's going to be a bad year for ticks. Just dandy, she groans.
I am trying to save the country, one guinea at a time. I have 18 babies now and my buff polish are hatching!

There are several things you can do to prevent ticks. Make a solution using flea & tick shampoo, dip the clothes you wear int the woods in it. Don't rinse, just wring them out (by hand, or in the machine if you don't have to go through the rinse cycle), and dry them. This works for chiggers (red bugs) too. IF there is a real bad infestation of ticks, chiggers, etc. don't just treat your clothes. Prior to walking in the woods, use the flea & tick shampoo on yourself just like shower gel and shampoo. Sergeants, and Adams are effective for about 4-5 days after using it. IF you don't use anything prior to your walk in the woods, use the flea & tick shampoo afterwards.

You can shower using Fels Naptha, or Octagon soap, but don't rinse it off. Just come out of the shower soaped up, and dry off. When you come back from your walk, rinse.

Off insect repellent contains DEET. Spray yourself, and clothing before going into the woods.

I've personally tried every one of these products, and methods. I prefer the dog flea & tick shampoo method best.
I still like cedarcide.

SGS is she an old turkey? Maybe not even good for soup. Is she your only turkey?
Sorry to pry but , I'm wondering why you have/keep her.

I seem to recall you giving her either fertile eggs, or babies to care for and it didn't go well. I need a refresher - my mind is older than the rest of me.

You're right .broody all summer then gave her chicks and she couldn't handle it so a day later I had to give them to my always broody dwarf hen. This is not the bird with the foot issues. She's my last female turkey and I still have her mostly because I'm lazy and it was the path of least resistance.

Good night folks, if any of you are still up to read this.

Just got up for the day .
