I had mentioned on Monday about the life flight helicopter and the sirens near our home. Today I found out what it was all about and it was horrible.
Up the road from us, a 2 year old Amish child ran out into a field where they were using a sickle mower to cut hay (probably horse drawn) The news story said that they didn't know the little one was in the field. The end result was that the child lost their right foot and they are trying to save the left at the Women's and Children's Hospital down in Columbia.
That poor child. I heard of one other incident like this one from one of our neighbors only with him it was his dog who was hit by the mower and he had to shoot it.
I mean seriously! These little Amish kids run all over these farms. We saw three standing by a small pond yesterday. Biggest one looked to be 4. HELLLLLOOOOOOO. I hope I'm not the only one who sees something wrong with this whole scenario....namely parental supervision or a lack there of. Also not unusual to see a 6 year old carrying a 2 year old around. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but if I had little ones I'd want them safely corralled in a fenced in back yard......with shackles on their ankles and leashes.......
@ronott1. Thought about it but the first thing I did when I found him was a hand's on feel of his body and at that time the crop was empty. Don't know what was going on or what happened. Just one of those things I'll file under 'he died, DKW (don't know why)'
