Thanks guys. I just took a peek under her when I did the ritual of exchanging feeders and putting rocks in the water dispenser. I always start the babies out with a square saucer filled with food set near mom so there is easy access and she is motivated to stay on the nest till every egg has hatched. I've seen babies standing in the middle of the saucer and the mom patiently reaching out to crush a piece of starter and feed it to the baby without leaving the nest.

Saw one tiny under her and another zipping when I stuffed a stray egg back under her. Humidity is something like 65-70% outside so no worries about that. Hoping there are just three more to go and she's done. I don't think that little hen has been off the nest more than 10 times in the past 19-20 days. She has been glued to those eggs. Remarkable first time broody.

Bruce, we have 20 fingers and 20 toes between DH and myself. No worries! We are always careful.

Gee wrapping eggs sounds even harder than wrapping Christmas presents. I always manage to tear the paper before finishing.

Bubble wrap is resilient!

They would do better using the burrito method. It suspends the eggs up in the box and keeps them from hitting each other.

I have had a lot of egg shipped to me in California and the ones in egg cartons are always the most broken. That is my experience as both a shipper and an receiver of shipped eggs.

Chicken chick has a good article about packing like this. I know we don't like to change but give it a try sometime.

4 new babies and the last one is zipping. Mom made a giant poopy and shuffled everybody away from it so I could clean up. Got her to move back into the nest and stole a quick look at the last egg.Hopefully baby will be out shortly. They are so darned tiny and cute. This hen is sitting on eggs laid by my two BBR hens and sired by my crosses.

I'm so looking forward to getting fertile eggs from my SWD girls and boys!
