The Old Folks Home

I think my cousin is on the SE side of Redding so other than the potential for smoke she should be OK.
This time!

My Sister is on the North East edge and there was a very bad fire over that way back in the early 2000s

I may have to evacuate sometime in my lifetime, but I'm not leaving my chickens. I have enough cages, and enough room to get them to safety.
There are instances of either late notification or where communications have broken down... They were notified about a half hour before. The fire was moving fast.

I have seen deer running ahead of a fire and seek refuge in peoples back yards... Their coats were singed. HERe in san Diego... during the Cedar fire...

Best scenario is Prepare before hand... Do fire drills Keep your important documents in a safe deposit box.... Keep a first aid kit... Your prescriptions can be rotated through an emergency grab to go box... For the animals you have to leave behind... ones you cant get or catch... ID TAGS are a must Were talking horses and livestock.

Some people were using white shoe polish to write their phone numbers non the rumps of horses... I have seen that done here for more than fifty years.

Crate train your dogs... In my case I have a two horse trailer... It would have held my horse four goats and as many chickens I could catch. The cab would have held the dogs

But all that prep wont save you when 80 mile an hour gust pushes a fire storm over the top of you as you are evacuating...

Durijng the cedar fire There was a break down in notifications. people were awoken by the sound and smell of fire.... late at night. ONe couple bred Boston Terriers. They loaded their crates and dogs in the car and she took off He finished up with loading the station wagon when the fire caught up with him. He drove a twisting winding dirt road to the main road.... By the time ha got to the road His paint was gone his tires were gone and he lost a couple of dogs. He made it... Thank goodness.

My craft project can't compete with SGC's considerable talent, but here is what I've been working on as a birthday gift for a friend back in IL. Got it done yesterday. I love to embroider and plan to work on quilt squares as soon as I can come up with white quilter's cloth.
