The Old Folks Home

Nope, nope. You didn't take me up on my generous offer to relieve you of yours so now you are stuck with it ;) Which model do you have?

How is the tractor set up for pulling? I'm going to order a logging chain and a tow strap (for extra length away from the log), not sure how I'll be attaching to the tractor though. There is a really big ring on the forks, that might be the best place. Can't really attach it to the backhoe I don't think.

We have a Mahindra 3510. We have a big towing hook that we attached to a tow bar. Then use the log chains and a couple of tow straps to do the pulling. PTO take off, 3 point hitch and 6 foot bucket. The bucket is as wide as the exterior of the rear wheels. It's a 2002 model. We let the original owner take the depreciation.:lau:gig

If we are pulling by attaching to the bucket, somebody welded two hooks on each corner of the bucket, but we only use that for light pulling and for chaining things to the bucket that we are trying to move.

The most impressive thing our tractor handled was a 750 pound wood stove that we scooped up with the bucket and deposited on a pick up truck bed.

These tractors are just little work horses. The flail is an interesting addition to the implement line up.

That would take a level of skill I won't likely have for quite a long time! So far I've only flattened out a dirt mound that had 2' tall grass and the associated mass of roots. Those huge balls of weeds don't really want to get picked up, I ended up pushing them with the bucket tilted down.

The 3510 looks similar to the current 2538 (they apparently don't make a 35 HP version). I could have gotten one of those somewhat cheaper (leftover from last year) but at 6' 2" I found the lower seat cramped my legs. My knees have never liked being held in one position for any length of time and definitely not in the situation where I don't have thigh support but need to keep pressure on my foot (accelerator). Figured it would be good if I could walk when I get off the tractor ;)

Sweet dreams everyone:hugs

Nope no logging wench. We cut the logs into 10 foot lengths, attach log chains and chugga chugga. We can usually move two foot thick logs 18+ feet without difficulty. Definitely the little tractor that could.

We then chain the logs into 16-18 inch rounds, load them into the bucket and transport to the splitter.

So what kind of tractor did you wind up getting. You DID get 4 wheel drive I hope.

@CapricornFarm. Yeah, I was ready for some good news. I'm probably going to loose my little hen that I wrote about yesterday. Not sure what's going on with her. I poked and prodded around on her tonight and felt a marble sized lump between her pubic bone and keel bone. So @ronott1, your prediction of reproductive cancer is probably right on. I noticed tonight that she hadn't eaten so she is definitely under the microscope at the moment. If she isn't eating by tomorrow I will probably euthanize. I noticed tonight that she feels a bit thin.

So yeah, getting word of the little Fayoumi hen being available is a ray of sunshine.
Hugs. I am so pleased with my Tolbunt Polish. Can hardly wait to get the coop built!
