The Old Folks Home

Thanks Chicka and Penny. Spent this afternoon mowing. Pretty wiped now. No energy thanks to the Methotrexate. Any exertion just knocks me flat. Think I'm gonna make supper and kick back, zone out and stare into space.

Got on the phone with Verizon today and told them about our lousy service. Getting a new phone, a Samsung S8 that works off of our WIFI. WIFI is getting upgraded by Hughesnet to Gen 5 so once we get that on line we will journey into K'ville and get the phone. We tried to get a land line from Hughes net but they kept talking in circles about cost, dependability, etc.

Sometimes you are just better off sticking with the devil you know......unfortunately.

How do you guys get rid of wasp nests near your coop? I had a giant one that I took on today with my electric fly swatter. Killed three wasps, chased off the other 2 and destroyed the nest. Didn't get stung which was a miracle as I really pee'd them off. But I didn't want to use wasp spray that close to one of the coops vent windows.

Pour some sevin dust on it at dark.

I have a hornet that keeps getting on my porch looking for somewhere to make a nest.
She finally made one in my bamboo stake for my kumquat tree. But that's not enough so I put two more pieces of bamboo in the front flower bed. But I guess she does not like them. She was back on the porch today.

squirt her with hairspray aqua net is one that works best

I don't want to kill her. She does not act aggressive at all. She's just looking for a hole to lay her babies in. But I don't want her on the porch. There's no place for her to make her nest on the porch. But she's determined. lol

After dark take a plastic bag, put it up over the nest, and pull the whole thing off inside the bag. Works but takes some intestinal fortitude. I'd also recommend heavy gloves to be on the safe side.
I use a coffee can and a putty knife... cover the nest with the coffee can use a putty knife or a carpet knife to sever the anchor point. The nest falls in the can and you snap the lid on. Any wasps that fly away dont hang around too long.

Biggest one I have handled Just fit in a five pound coffee can. No stings if you do it at night. they usually hunker down and go down with the nest. I would NOT do this if I were allergic.
