The Old Folks Home

One of my Michigan thread friends had 30 chicks and turkey poults die on him about a week ago - they were in a brooder, in a new coop, previously used light bulb, no mess or appearance of a struggle, no wounds, and he had seen them 30 minutes before looking perfectly normal. Still trying to figure that one out :(
The bulb might have been a coated bulb that give off toxic fumes. The other time it was used there may have been better ventilation or something caused the bulb to off gas more

Apparently the bulb was not Teflon coated, and had been used previously for chicks in more confined areas, this is a well-ventilated space. Very frustrating :barnie

The birds had been in the coop for several days and he had literally just seen them 30 minutes prior, and was on the property and heard nothing.
Some bulbs are coated in plastic or the red is actually a paint.

Something toxic tough to kill them all that fast. Rat poison? Improper pesticides? Using DE and damaging lungs?

Could be too high of heat and I suppose electric shock from a wet cord.

I also found out that Golden Malren fly bate will kill animals too

Little pullet is still with us. Happily gobbling down scrambled eggs moistened with Corid water so I know she is getting the medicine in her. She isn't quite as fluffed tonight and has stopped screaming her little lungs out so I'm hoping for the best but as I said time will tell.

I told them this was just their plan to get back in the shop and their brooder so they could be spoiled more.

Sneaky little birds Micro!

Got the wood stove cleaned out and the inside inspected. Replaced 4 firebricks and got a new door gasket installed. All we have to do is clean out the stovepipe and we are ready for winter. Yesterday it was something like 93 out today it is barely 70 with a brisk west wind.
I've don't the chimney clean out and tested a couple of weeks ago. Do need to replace the door gasket. Wind? Did someone mention wind? It is gusting to near 50 MPH at the moment. Blew over part of my wood pile :(

I did mouth to mouth once. No regrets. Revived the patient long enough for his family to get to the hospital to say good bye to him before he went into a final arrest. She was a wonderful lady that I'd gotten to know from taking care of her husband. When she came to the facility afterwards, she smiled at me and said 'the aids told me you 'kissed' my husband.' then hugged me and thanked me for giving them a chance to say good bye to him. We were both crying and laughing at the same time. Like I said. No regrets.

Our friend is still in ICU. 10 broken ribs and a crushed vertebrae. I just feel so sad for him and his family. No way this is going to come out well for them.
So sorry about your friend! Hubby has a torn ligament in his wrist. Since May. He finally went to the doctor!
