The Old Folks Home

IIRC it is a clean break into 2 pieces. Interesting that Rachel died a number of years before Captain Amos yet her stone is in much better shape.

Yep, it all depends on the type of stone and where it was quarried from. Some have more imperfections and inclusions in the stone which let water in.

The 16, 17 and early 1800 slate stones look so much better than the marble which started in the early 1800s. Marble gets destroyed by acid rain.

There were other places they came in but, most thought it was called Ellis Island.
Dad's mother has an entry in Ellis Island records, his dad came through Brownsville, TX with a stop in Cuba. Both already had older brothers in So. Cal. Mom's grandfather and 3 Y/O daughter went to Guadalajara then came north. Don't know where they entered the USA.

No Raspberry was his middle name. He was the black Irishman who married my maternal great grandmother. I have their picture also. She is tall and stout. He is about a head shorter and skinny. When I first saw her picture I almost fainted. Feature wise I could be her twin only shorter and built more like great grandpa.

But who in their right mind would name a child Raspberry?

Forgot to send congratulations to @bruceha2000 on his daughter's college acceptance. You must be so proud of her.

Oh good grief! Raspberry was the last name??? :th

I used to work for a fellow named H. Allen Berry. I finally asked him what his first name was... with only a teeny bit of hesitation he said Harry.... :th

I can see a messed up name for a girl but they expected them to marry.

Thats why I gave my son two solid names to choose from and looked at the initials too. didnt want them to spell anything. Worked out great.
