The Old Folks Home

This time of the year when we walk in the timber I find an 4 foot long walking stick and wave it in front of me to clear the trail of cobwebs. I just hate it when those things hit my face and I look up to see a spider dangling from my sun visor.

Today while harvesting the dead tree I found a small yellow spider with a v pattern of dark spots on it's thorax. Just looked it up.

It was a banded crab spider. Smaller than a dime and feisty.

That is a beautiful Spider!

When I bought this property I had to clear a lane to the back about 1200ft x 30ft, 3 times wider where the house is, out of about 10 acres of dense cedar, spruce, poplar and various heavy undergrowth. What I quickly discovered is that there are LOTS of spiders in the woods. All different sizes, shapes, and colors. They are literally everywhere. And they give me the willies, but I try not to kill anything unnecessarily so we had a detante thing going.

Big weather change here in NE TX overnight. rainy and cloudy yesterday near 80. this morning, still gray and damp but 59 degrees and quite cool. NO A/C needed today for sure. Sitting here with a pan of maple & brown sugar oatmeal for breakfast and a hot mug o' tea. Back to high 80s daytime and ~70 night by early next week.
