Not real red, they're supposed to be. But it was very tasty, have a few more to try and plenty of seeds , didn't grow any other melons so they will be pure. Beings the plants were about dead I figured over ripe, was just hoping for mature seeds. About perfect flavor and crispness straight through, the kids even gnawed on the rinds lol.

Here's Fall around here, this year, at least:

Not a great pic, sorry - I snapped it at a shopping center while waiting to exit, so was in a bit of a hurry to 'put up the phone and DRIVE!'

Flowering trees are blooming all over the place; I've even seen a few flowering shrubs putting on a show. Even trees not known for their flowers are putting on fresh, delicate shades of Spring green (like the ones in the background on the right side of this pic).

The reason we get two Springs this year is, of course, Florence. Even the plants that didn't break or get uprooted took a fearful pounding; many were basically defoliated.

It's too early in the year for them to be bare; response to the stress causes dormant buds to break, and some of those buds are flowers.

This is pretty late in the year for them to 'reset;' we will probably have frost within a month to six weeks. While they most likely will bloom again next Spring, the show may be a bit thin. Might be interesting to see how this get recorded in tree rings.

Love the squash. All my pumpkins and gourds were assaulted by squirrels this year and I have nothing left.
Yesterday they dug into my 50 lb pumpkin I so proudly grew and ruined it, along with a rouge vif d'etampes next to it.

If you don't process them, I'm sure your chickens will enjoy a peckfest o' squash.

On the recommendation of someone (I believe on this thread), I got a Squirrelinator. Trapped a dozen last year and only 7 this year. Best bait is fresh apricots. My garden is a bit happier. Will have to move the trap to the front of the house where the pecans are getting ready.

It was the drugs that killed him, not the Sandwich!

Around here the leaves fall and the mistletoe shows up as green! We get green all the time!
