If the lid is rotted out, how good are the sides and bottom??


Yeah, what she said! Going to have to pull the hoses to the auto waterers. Back to the bucket brigade. But I can still use the hoses for several weeks, just have to drain them for the times it goes below freezing.

That is a good point about the condition of the tank.
On of My uncles worked for a septic system company. He drove new tanks around Northern California for replacing old tanks and installing new ones.

A new tank was required by code for old tanks

Hey the raspberry is heaven or strawberry We do not freeze often either so have aquarium heaters in my water buckets take hoses off the house when not in use drain them

Beer, what would a new concrete tank cost? Mine is likely a 1,000 gallon and the surface area is about the same as a sheet of plywood. Don't know how far down the bottom is but the top is barely below grade. That is borne out by both the physical location of the cap (which is NOT elevated) when it was pumped out and the brown rectangle during drought times where there isn't enough soil to hold water for the grass. I figured it would have to be deeper as would the waste line but the septic guy said there is never any standing water in the line to freeze and the bottom of the tank is below frost level so the "stuff" in it doesn't freeze either.

I had fudge ripple last night. Trying to eat more calcium rich foods and who turns down a chance to eat ice cream? Nobody I know.

The problem this year with our summer is that we didn't get any breaks in the heat. Usually we get a few days after a rain where the temps will go from highs in the 90s to highs in the 80s but not this year. Just heat and no rain. Seems like I was running out to the coop to add cold water to their waterers every time I turned around. Our fall seems to be short lived as well. No temps in the 60 or 70 degree range for any length of time at all. Just BAM! 40-50 degree highs like November here.

I was walking out two mornings ago to let the birds out and the ground was white with frost. Pulled my collar around my neck and said. I did not miss this at all. And I don't.

Our new next door neighbors have been here for a little over two years and have announced that they are considering moving up to upper Michigan. Keep in mind they moved here from the Dakotas. Have already started house hunting up there. They have poured money into their house here so it kind of surprised us especially when they moved here they told us they were ready for milder winters. When I asked them 'Why the move?' their response was 'we miss winter!'

For once in my life I was rendered speechless. My husband just chuckled and said 'we moved here for the milder winter. If we had our druthers we would be somewhere where the winters are milder yet'.

Different strokes I guess. That and being 25 years older than they are. Told them when they reached our age their perspective of winter would be completely different.

I would miss having all the seasons although 5 months of winter is a bit much for me.

Got off work early to do a webinar from the Wisconsin Historical Society... dating photographs from clothing. Starts in just a few minutes, hope it's as good as it looks.

55° here, and still drizzling/raining off and on. Been this way for about a week. Where I am isn't experiencing the flooding as that's much further west and SW of here, toward the center of the state. Looking at the radar, the SW to NE front line that everything has been moving along seems to be drawing back north. Maybe just a bit? Sure would be nice. Sure would appreciate some of that prolonged fall warm weather I moved here to enjoy. Aside from that, it would be nice to save a little money on AC or heating...

Actually I have totally given up ice cream for a whole week - honestly. Even though the grocery store had my favorite on sale. The thing about giving up an addiction, is you start a new one. So far, thankfully, I haven't thought of another.
