The Old Folks Home

I think people like the way they look when they bloom and as you said, Bunny, in the fall. There aren't too many around here. People seem to prefer the Flowering Dogwoods here as they are the state flower. Frankly I like the wild plums the best when they bloom in the spring. This past spring the whole woods smelled like blossoms.

What I hate are the black walnuts. When they fall and hide in the grass you hit them with your lawnmower. I am not a fan of that sound nor of the black ooze that splatters all over your legs when the the pieces hit you.
Did you know you can make wood stain from them? We have many of them, i think the biggest is down near the picnic area. Sure makes a mess.

Mice are hosts to many tick-born diseases that the tick vectors can spread to us. Ugh. We never had ticks up here until around 15 years ago, now they are all over - so far just the Brown Dog Ticks though (people around here call them wood ticks), and not any Deer Ticks, which carry Lyme disease among others.
We have lots of assorted ticks here. They all disgust me. I wear repellent every day during tick season, unless i forget. Have to pick them off the dogs too.

Damn Clue... that was one hell of a score on all that oak! Not just the fire wood but the chipper/shredder material as well. wow. I too have bradford pear trees... I can take em or leave em, but would prefer to leave em. My PITA tree is the gum trees that drop those spiny balls. Hard on the feet, the mowers, and the grasses. But the goats sure do love the leaves... green or fallen on the ground. Even brown, they eat them like lays potato chips... I've been cutting some of the smaller ones down (they grow in thickets) and they strip them bare in under an hour. They like the bark too.

Somebody's mom is a brilliantly creative costume maker, too!

BB2K and I entered the animal costume contest at the Cape Fear Fair and Expo last night. We've done some of the "main/mane 6" My Little Pony characters in the past, and while people have loved them, we thought this time we'd do something a little different. Still MLP, just a bit edgier; we were wondering if anyone would recognize them. There was one little MLP fan who did; most other folks saw the wings and just thought "dragons." I was rushing to get this done, and didn't get any of them finished to my satisfaction (to me it really shows), but hey, it was fun. Maybe one of these years, I will actually get going on an idea with enough time to do the job properly, but if I do, Cindy may need to put netting over her Pig Derby track because her pigs will have sprouted wings . . .

Sorry about the pics; the lights in the livestock tent turn everything weird colors and it's hard to get a good shot in such limited space.

Here are:

Blondie as "Flutterbat" (a vampire bat version of Fluttershy)
Syd as "Nightmare Moon" (the evil transformation of Princess Luna)
Betsy as Discord, a onetime antagonist/villain who in later seasons got turned by the power of friendship, or something like that . . .
