The Old Folks Home

Dh is working on Thanksgiving night, so they'll feed him at work. All the kids have multiple places to go eat on Thanksgiving, so I am not cooking. In fact, Dh will be sleeping most of the day, until he gets up to go to work. That's almost like having the house to myself, but after he leaves for work, I will actually get the whole house to myself for awhile. YAY! A good friend of mine is coming to visit her family for Thanksgiving, and will come visit me for awhile on Thanksgiving day. I'll have her fill, and bring me a plate of food. When Dd #1 comes back home, she too will have a plate of food for me. While that may not seem to be a good Thanksgiving to some, I'm very happy camper.

Can you get takeout?

Thanks guys. I couldn't even make myself go in Walmart to get the stuff i need. Looks like another day on the sofa.
Cap, I’m sorry you’re in so much pain. When my mom had bursitis in her shoulder, she could barely move her arm. Physical therapy helped her.

Happy Monday guys. Busy day. My hen died overnight. She went peacefully in her sleep but y'all will be proud of me! I did my first necropsy as I still had no idea what had killed her and had a feeling that this time it wasn't Marek's.

I was a bit shaky but once in was fascinated by what I saw and learned.

I'm glad I found out what happened and glad there wasn't anything I could have done differently that would have saved her.
Sorry you lost your hen, but kudos to you for opening her up to find out what happened.

Ya know, my outlook on holidays has changed as the family has grown, married and moved away. As long as you’re happy with how it’s spent, that’s what matters. We have 3 married sons. Sons 1 and 2 will be celebrating with their in-laws this year. Number 3 is a paramedic and will be working Wednesday-Friday. We might go get our DIL and grandson (6 hours round trip) if they want to come. They’re still deciding. Whether they come or not, we’ll be going to a church in town that will be having a meal for those who won’t have big family celebrations but still want to get together with people. My folks will join us, as will DH’s sister, BIL and a few other family members. It’ll be different, but as our family evolves, so will our holidays.

Thanks @bruceha2000, @getaclue and @bobbi-j. Yes definitely good to know that it wasn't Marek's this time. I knew I had a hen with a glitch as I was finding ridged eggs and shell-less eggs over the summer months but could never find the culprit. Evidently it was the hen that died.....I hope. Time will tell

Thanksgiving here this year will be just DH and myself. I'm baking half a turkey for me and a nice Sirloin roast for DH as he isn't keen on turkey. Of course there will be the usual mashed potatoes, roast green beans, rolls and pumpkin pie. I'll make pies in the morning as I have an appointment with the Rheumy tomorrow afternoon along with blood work. Evidently to take the Prolia, they have to have a baseline calcium level so they can start my 'study' as it was put to me. Along with regular blood work so they can find something else wrong with me to scratch their heads over.

Love being guinea pig, LOL:bun

@getaclue, I love the way you put that. Yes, Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations evolve as our lives do. My mother used to work for days on Thanksgiving dinner. I watched her do it for years. Now I simplify the whole thing as much as possible and wish my mother had also. It makes the holidays a lot less taxing when you aren't stressing out over it.

@perchi.girl! How is the diet going? I weighed myself yesterday and had hit the 125 pound mark! I m going to ask the doctor tomorrow what he thinks is an ideal weight for me so my joints aren't overtaxed by extra weight. I've read everything from 115 to 130 pounds.

Just watch him say 110 pounds:hitluckily if he does I have my Methotrexate diet plan in gear so I can do it. I won't like it but I'll do it.....after Thanksgiving!

Micro, hopefully you have a doctor that looks at you as a person rather than a statistic or actuarial table entry that states "you" should weigh "this amount". Each individual is unique to a degree and really it should be what YOU feel most comfortable at within a range for you. Hope they don't "find" anything else to add to your long list of ailments.

Hope everyone has firmed up their plans for Thanksgiving and the holiday weekend to follow. For those who participate in "black Friday", I hope you are well armed with lots of extra magazines and a few grenades & smokes/flares to call for air cover  I'll have nothing to do with that thank you very much. Be careful all, drive safe if driving, have fun, enjoy as best you can.
