It was, the dentist gave me novocaine but the tooth was infected and the drug did not numb me. I begged him to knock me out with gas or something but he just kept working. No wonder i hate going to the dentist!

I had the same thing happen only the doctor kept pumping anesthesia into my jaw and apologizing profusely but he had to open the tooth as it was abscessed and if he didn't drain it the top of my head would feel like it was exploding. I knew him as I worked with his wife on OB. I was sweating and gripping the arms of the chair until my knuckles turned white and my fingers ached. He drilled and apologized. 30 some odd shots later I went home with an open tooth and a stunned expression on my face. First time I discovered that I had a high pain threshold. LOL

The thing is that the ph of ummmm pus I think if I remember right, neutralizes the local anesthetic. SGC could explain it better.At least my dentist apologized, which helped a lot and kept apologizing and telling me to hang in there.

I always like the teaching college that required every MD it graduated to spend a weekend in the hospital as a patient with an imaginary disease. Just to put things into perspective.

Yeah, i gripped the chair and the tears ran down my face, but i didn't move. Not my first bad dental experience.

But why not get antibiotics to combat the infection before drilling!?

This is why gave up went to dentures never looked back had my Jaw jammed broke two wisdom teeth he re re-wrenched the jaw then decided I was delirious because I wanted to get my car out of his lot I had a goat Pontiac GTO 1968

There are dentists, then there are the other kind of dentists. It's so sad when a person has a bad experience with a less than good dentist.

Sometimes the infection can't wait to be put on meds. Had a son with an abscessed tooth..was swollen clear out to the mid upper pallet..man, what was he thinking waiting that long?? This dentist came to the office for him around 8 at night because he couldn't stand the pain. He cut the part open a bit at the top of his mouth. I won't go into details., but the dentist said If ever there was an emergency to come out for someone, this was it. Son had to go back if course for a root canal, after, being on meds for a while.

I happen to be very sensitive to the natural nitrates that occur in pork. I've gone without pork for two weeks now and my blood pressure reading yesterday was 133 over 82.
Well I have to attend another funeral today. My great uncle passed Thursday. That's two family members and three friends since July.....

Drs don't do anything painful to me any more while I'm awake!
I've had root canals and teeth pulled that they could not get numb. I cried the whole time. Not any more! They are all gone.
