The Old Folks Home

The thing is that the ph of ummmm pus I think if I remember right, neutralizes the local anesthetic.

Learn something new every day!

There are dentists, then there are the other kind of dentists. It's so sad when a person has a bad experience with a less than good dentist.

Amen!

I had an uncle who was a dentist. He was also a raging alcoholic and IMO a manic depressive. I watched him go downhill in heath over several decades. Aside from OB doctors (and even them), if you think about it, they deal with nothing but pain, anguish, loss of life and just about every negative issue/emotion in between on a daily and continuous basis. They are held responsible for trying to alleviate that pain and anguish and to prevent those deaths. If they fail, for whatever reason, they then have to worry about potential law suits that can ruin them. And since juries see doctors as "rich" with good insurance that will pay, litigants ask for astronomical amounts, even in settlements. They are not allowed to make a mistake, of any kind, ever. Perfection is demanded.

That's no excuse for poor or negligent care, but I do not envy a doctor's work environment or conditions of employment.

I've had good dentists and bad, I've had good doctors and bad. In an effort to lessen all of their work loads and stress/strain, I (do my best to) avoid both medical branches unless I'm suffering a near death situation.

What happened is that they took xrays which hadn't showed the abscess and started drilling. When he started to take the xrays while doing the root canal, he took a reading, checked the xray, came back into the room and said, I have some bad news. We are drilling on the wrong tooth. The tooth I'm working on needs a canal done on it but the tooth next to it is really the bad tooth and it has an abscess. I had gone in earlier with a toothache and the doc had me come back after hours so he could work on giving me some relief. They hadn't seen the abscess until then.

I have a disease in my teeth called congenital internal resorption. My immune system will turn on my own teeth and try to dissolve them from the inside out. The first indication of a problem is that the tooth abcesses and then I get pain.

I've lost about half of my teeth to it. and wound up losing both teeth that he worked on anyway.:idunno What can I say, sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you.
Aw Micro, i hate to hear of another miserable diease you are dealing with! Hope you have a good day today.Hugs.

Yeah. Nice guy. Never sent me a bill. I went to him years later when he had moved his practice to Peoria and had specialized in endentology. He's the doc that eventually diagnosed the CIR in my teeth. At the time I was only the second person in IL to be diagnosed with it.
I was going to say i never heard of it before. Sounds dreadful!

Thanks, Cap. I think I have about 20,000 dollars invested in my mouth. Now I go to the dentist and say 'no heroics' and they just blink at me like they can't understand why any patient would say that about there teeth.

It isn't too bad really. I haven't had a 'flare' of it since 2002 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I have a lot of crowns, even a gold one! Between my fear of dentists and my depression, my teeth do get neglected. Some nights i can't even make myself brush my teeth.
On a good note, i am meeting a lady Saturday to sell my 2 fuzzy lop bucks i have been trying to sell since spring. It will be great to empty out a cage. Plan to move another bunny out of the barn. I might even get goats some day! :fl

I happen to be very sensitive to the natural nitrates that occur in pork. I've gone without pork for two weeks now and my blood pressure reading yesterday was 133 over 82.
Well I have to attend another funeral today. My great uncle passed Thursday. That's two family members and three friends since July.....

:barnie

So hard when it all piles up. :hugs

Just remember to breathe and get out of bed each day. :hugs
