The Old Folks Home

@JD4570, congratulations on the job score!

Yeah, I hear ya Cap. My original flock brooded in my utility room. Dander everywhere. This room I'm using used to be the office for the cabinet shop that operated where our attached shop is so it has a nice sunny western exposure and usually is very toasty warm. NOTHING is toasty warm right now but improving. I remember the first time we looked at the farm, we walked into the office and there was a chicken sitting on top of the countertop that was there at the time. Owner left the door open and this hen had wandered in much to their collie's disapproval. Dog went to herd the chicken out of the office and chaos ensued. I thought to myself .....Home!

I let the birds out this morning for the first time in a week. They were thrilled and are out enjoying the sun and what few snowfree spots that are available in their run. Hopefully the last of the snow will disappear over the next two days.

Well, I didn't get hired at the plant but I got hired on by the local school district!

Excellent about the job.

Alaska is discussing a huge budget cut. As in 200million less for the school system.

Lots of schools in smaller towns will close, charter schools will close, all swimming pools will close, all sports will close, all extra curricular activities will close....

Also cuts to the hospitals, well... everything will be cut

A bit stressed... spouse might end up unemployed..... but we don't know yet.

There is no Tenure there?

Yes, tenure up here means they have to give you 1 years notice before they fire you.

Tenure is no longer what it used to be.
Senate Faculty go through a tenure process after being hired here. It usually take three years.

Academic Faculty(lecturers) go through a 6 year process before tenure.

Once they are tenured, it is nearly impossible to fire them. We have one now that is being protected bye Tenure

It is hard to get tenure up here... but once you get it... it does not give you much protection.

Without tenure you have to turn in a big binder/ report every year clearly showing why you should not be fired.

With tenure you only have to do that once every three years.

Without tenure they can fire you with only a month notice (or is it 3?? Can't remember), with tenure you get 1 year notice.

My dad was a tenured prof, and yeah, he had a cushy gig. He got a year sabbatical every 7 years, got paid I think 70% salary when he had to take off a year for his illness.

Cushy.

Not what we have up here.

They might better cut the salaries of the politicians.
