The Old Folks Home

Happy Monday everyone! Cloudy and cool here this morning after a rainy, stormy weekend. Looks like the week is going to be a 'wash, rinse, repeat sort of week weather wise. Everyone is glad for the rain given the drought and heat of last year but not happy that it is still chilly for this time of the year and we are getting 2-3 inches of rain at a time with no breaks long enough to dry out in betweenn storms..

Garden is doing well. I bought some chili pepper, sweet pepper and sweet potato plants yesterday that need to go in the ground.

Had some sort of reaction to one of the med increases yesterday. Just felt blah all day. Stomach upset whole GI system upset. Severe constipation, Palpitations, Belching, tired, the works. Not happy that PA increased two of my drugs at the same time so I don't know which one is causing it. Held the gout medicine yesterday as the side effects are everything I've been experiencing and planning to today also. Also dropping the Methotrexate back to what I was taking last month. Woke up feeling better so I think I'm on the right track with it.

Disasterous chicken weekend My baby quail hatched....mother killed and cannibalized it Found it quite deceased with it's skull and eyes gone. Took the other egg away from the bantam as she was bouncing in and out of the nest, quite agitated, and gave the egg to the only other broody I had at the time. The chick hatched, a beautiful little SDW baby..that was also mortally wounded by the surrogate mother. I kicked myself for not bringing the egg in and hatching it in the incubator but a single chick needs a mamma. It was still alive when I found it but hypothermic. Stuffed the poor little thing in my bra and got it warmed up enough to bring it into the house and put in in the Brinsea which I luckily had up and running. I started to peep but I knew it was a lost cause as it was bleeding from both ears. Yep, it died over night Really dejected about the whole mess and still kicking myself.

Have finally made the decision on how many birds I'm going to keep The numer is 24. Told DH that I'm just emotionally worn out from all the losses from Marek's disease and the double 'homicide' of the chicks was just the last straw. If I wasn't having all the health problems keeping the 70 birds that I have wouldn't be a problem but I just don't have the energy any more to do what needs to be done to keep them and me happy..

So the Fayoumis stay, the bantams stay and my favorite roosters and hens stay everyone else is going to freezer camp. I have three hens setting three eggs each. I'll wait for them to mature before making a decision on them but I want to keep enough birds to keep me active and provide enough eggs for me to share with others.

It's been a hard decision to make but it's for the good of the flock and most importantly, good for me. Hard to do that. I seldom think of 'me' and I'm trying to do that now.

Otherwise, it's a new week and for the moment, NOT RAINING! At least not until tonight. YAY!
It is a really hard decision to downsize. I think I should, but then I keep getting more birds. I am an addict! I did restrain myself from buying more chicks at Rural King last visit , and have not bought any more rabbits.

Spooky Slot Canyon, it's about 9 inches wide in most parts. This is Dsqard trying to help someone who fell down 10 feet into the slot canyon. Pretty difficult when you are sardined into it yourself.

This moron thought that sitting in the middle of the road at Forrest Gump Point right outside Monument Valley was a good idea.

Penny I am still wearing jeans with a light amount of fleece inside even when it got up to 80F. I keep getting cold, I have to see the doctor about getting thyroid test. Plus sleeping in the fleece lined flannel shirt(hooded) that weighs a ton and still using a fleece blanket and wooly socks.

Sleeping single in a double bed and no dogs= COLD. Maybe I won't need air conditioner on this year.
