The Old Folks Home

No big plans here. Today is DH's birthday so today his 'his day' to do what he wants. I'll be baking a Birthday Pie for him. He isn't a big cake fan but he loves pumpkin pie so that is what he shall have. One year I asked him what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday and he admitted he had spent his whole life tolerating birthday cake when what he really wanted was a birthday pie. So that is what he gets.

Thanks for the tutorial on the Bargello quilt. Doing the pattern in strips makes a lot of sense given the complexity of the design. @superchemicalgirl do you do the tumbling block pattern the same way?

@CapricornFarm. Have fun visiting your pupsickle today. I know how excited you are and how you are counting down the days till you bring her home. Our little monsters are changing every day. Cattle Dog pups are born white with only their spots showing up as black or brown. As they mature their coats darken to either their blue or red dominant color. So their color is changing until they reach adulthood with only their dominant 'spots' staying the same.

They are calling for more rain here today...no big surprise. I'm learning that yes, there is such a thing as a garden getting too much water. My peas are yellowing out as are my green beans. My onions are rotting in the ground. I dug out drainage trenches for water to run off the rows but there is just only so much water the ground can hold before it turns into a saturated sponge and says 'NO MORE!'. My container beans and corn are doing well as is my herbs. My potatoes are also hanging in there.

No, the tumbling block quilt was a pain in the butt. Everything had to be cut out with a template/ruler by hand. I could chain piece because a lot of the units repeated, but I found I got confused so I had to sit with the unit drawing and just do one piece at a time. There were also Y seams involved, so it really sucked.

I got it on the long arm today and spent a few hours quilting. Not looking great... the quilt is a bit wonky... but not ripping it out. It's texture and I'm hoping once the whole thing is done you won't be able to notice the wonky.

I could never tell anyway, looks great to me.

One year I asked him what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday and he admitted he had spent his whole life tolerating birthday cake when what he really wanted was a birthday pie.
Too bad he waited so long! But I'm sure he didn't say anything because he felt ii would look like he was ungrateful for the effort offered. Glad he's getting what he wants now.

Bruce just in case anyone asks you, I prefer a chocolate cake with whipped cream icing. But will always settle for ICE CREAM. Birthday is only a month & few days from now. Not that I'd want everyone to know.:gig

PS Sourland's B-day is a day after mine(but you didn't hear that from me.)
