The Old Folks Home

Our house, like a lot of Amish built homes, is clad in metal and has a metal roof. If I go up in the attic during a storm the noise is deafening. A nice shower produced the best sound. Hail is just gawdawful.

Had a funny conversation with one of the members of our HAM club yesterday. He had a load of 10 foot 4X4s in the bed of his truck. DH asked him what he was building and he admitted that it was for his new chicken run. He and his wife were getting 12 chickens and he was figuring 30X50 feet for their run. DH just chuckled and I joined in. DH told him he needed a bigger run. The guy looked puzzled and said 'really? for 12 chickens?' I then told him I started out with 12. Quickly went to 18. Then DH piped in with 'she had almost 80 before she got rid of over half of them this month'. I wish I had a picture of the poor guys face. I advised him to think BIGGER. always thing BIGGER when building for chickens.

I'm sure he went home and started changing his plans. I didn't get a chance to warn him that man makes plans and chickens laugh......then set on eggs and make more chickens.

I need to remind DH that he promised me Guineas last year. Should render him speachless for a short while!
Chicken math is a very real thing!

I bet life is much easier with "only" 40

Cannot agree more We have two relatively new neighbors I had eggs missing then old neighbor here says they have lost gas they have a storage yard whats next we own our road only house on it thank heavens
How Sad!

Is it time for a big dog to patrol?

Okay. So went to the dermatologist and had some blobs electro-cauterized off my nose and some broken capillaries and veins zapped on my face. I was told they would crust up. And, boy, did they! I look like rather leper-ish. Any idea how long this will take to heal? I'm grounded as I don't want to scare anyone, which is okay as I have stuff around here to do.
When the 92 year old neighbor had a tumor removed, it took a couple of weeks. It was big though!

She still went out but I do not think you care that much about appearance at 92 years old....

Prayers sent that all goes to plan and you are safely home and recovering in no time!

See, told you that you could do it!

Yeah @ronott1, it sure is. I'm amazed by how much food I am saving. My 'chicken chores' usually take about 30 minutes now with the 4 pens of broodies and chicks but I only have 10 new chicks and the Fayoumi's added to the list. I haven't counted beaks but I think the number is somewhere between 30 and 40 now. I was going through 50 pounds of feed in about 5 days and now I still have over a half of a bag left and it's been 10 days since I've opened the last bag.

And while I was getting about 1.5-2 dozen eggs a day, I'm now getting 6.Perfect! I'd love to get the Fayoumis blended in with the main coop. I have the gate open between the pens and they are visiting back and forth but want to sleep in their own coop at night. My little rooster Cowboy is in with them and quite happy being daddy bird. He's a bit of a doofus so I don't know where he is going to wind up roosting. I wish I could get him in with the bachelors but they are pretty tough on him due to him being, well, a Doofus. But he's so cute I keep him around.

Got the garden hoed yesterday, need to do a bit more work there but they are calling for more rain tonight. At least the ground isn't saturated anymore.
