The Old Folks Home

Good morning, Old Folks!

My daughter, SIL, and granddaughter Frankie arrived last night. And Bella their dog! We will visit a calm swimming hole (Frankie is only one year old) and take the gondola to the top of Killington. Also, tomorrow is my birthday (66!) and we will go out for lunch, dinner being too difficult with a baby who now walks!

They are headed to my ex’s family’s place on the beach afterwards, and we are keeping Bella for two weeks. Bella is a delight, but she has always been skittish and last year was attacked and injured by a neighbor’s dog, so the beach house with its many guests and dogs is not the best choice, since they have to look after Frankie at the same time. We love Bella; it will be fun! She loves it here - no leash, freedom!

Bella and Sprocket the construction supervisor A5937061-FA10-4506-A146-F674E8DE96E7.jpeg 0D4D5A93-1B50-4E5A-917E-7FD897C06E53.jpeg get along well.

Rain this afternoon...but a nice morning and tomorrow looks nice too.

I'll be heading out soon to go pick strawberries (finally ripe!) and then make some jam. Tomorrow is the day the roosters go to camp. Two days ago I told BTfH that her days were numbered. Last night she was on a roost, calm as can be, like nothing ever happened.

Ridgecrest had another bigger quake about 2 hours ago. It was a 7.1.
Today they are reporting that the 6.2 was a "pre-shock" and this 7.1 was the "real" quake. A 6.2 PRE?!?! They are expecting aftershocks for weeks if not months. Maybe California really is going to break off into the Pacific!

Also, tomorrow is my birthday (66!)
You and @drumstick diva share a birthday!

Dang turkey is too smart for her (or is that your?) own good!

Morning everyone.

Glad all our west coast members are alive and well this morning after the shakeup. Frankly, I have to tip my hats to y'all. It's unnerving enough living close to the new Madrid fault, I don't think that I could take living on top of the San Andreas and keep my nerves intact. I've been through two temblors with the NM. One in the late 60s on a Saturday morning. I remember hearing a rumble, my brother commenting 'what is that!' and us looking out the window to the south in time to see the power poles ripple up and down like a wave lifting them. The second was in the early 80s while I was putting up a ceiling fan for my parents. I was up the ladder and suddenly it felt like somebody was kicking the ladder. It only took me a few seconds to realize it was an earthquake and scramble down the ladder.

If I had to live with that on a daily basis I'd be looking for new real estate farther to the west....away from the Madrid fault also if it was more active than it is.

If y'all get a chance google the major NM fault earthquake that occurred during the early 1800s. It occured over a period of time between 1811 and 1812 and completely devastated the Mississippi valley. Bells were heard ringing as far east as New York and Washington DC. The only thing saving it from being worse than it was (sand geysers, Mississippi river running backwards, etc) was the fact that the population was very low. If it were to happen today..........

Yes Happy, Happy, Happy Birthdays in advance to @drumstick diva and @trumpeting_angel! Hope you both have great days!

I'm off to rip more walls off my little coop! Stay safe and cool everyone!

After all this time, Dh finally dragged out the extra water spigot timer. He was sandbagging on me. He had what I needed all along, just didn't remember where he put it, and didn't want to look for it. The booger! Now, it's (hopefully, if he did it right) set to go on, and off when I need it to.

This is all original! Restored by the guy kid 3 works for.

This was funny... environmental group.. driving a bus in the parade that was BELCHING out HUGE clouds of black smoke.... kid 3 said maybe instead of spending money on the fancy paint job... they should have fixed the mechanicals.

Every maybe 20 feet it would stall out and one guy would jump out to pop the hood and fiddle. There were a BUNCH of people IN the bus. They should have shut it off and pushed it. That would have been very pro environment.
