The Old Folks Home

Thanks for reminding me! Out to take pics of our apple trees. Also just came in from doing an egg swap. I looked ahead at the weather and temps next week are in the mid to upper 90s. No way in a place hotter than that will I chance hens on eggs right now so I gave each broody two porcelaine eggs and brought the incubating eggs in. They are now safely in my incubator where they will have a fighting chance at hatching under controlled temps and I will try to graft chicks to moms once they are hatched.

Today was a great day. I felt better than I have in the past 3 months. Still not 100% of what passes for normal for me but at least 90% there. Went shopping where I had the funniest thing happening. I was exiting the DG store in town and walked by a Fedex truck. Suddenly I heard somebody yell "HEY! I have a package for you. Do you want to take it now or me bring it out to the house?" I just laughed and told the driver no, I'd take it now and save him a trip to the boonies. That used to happen all the time back in western IL. The town was twice the size of our home town now but I told DH that NOW it felt like home. The only thing missing is somebody approaching me at the local grocery store and asking me if their glasses were in yet or could I fix their glasses for them while I was looking over the produce? No crap, really happened.

I can grow bananas???

Howdy folks....been a long time!
Hey JD! Nice to see you. Post a quick synopsis of what's been going on if you get the chance.

Hello. Still sick. Bonus, lost 9 pounds. Hubby not feeling well either and his vacation trip starts on the 14th.
:( I hope you both get to feeling better, especially DH, vacations are no fun when you are sick, especially if you have to travel. I assume he's driving to Nova Scotia?

Hello all! Sorry to photo bomb and run
Bomb away! Pretty places, @superchemicalgirl posted some of hers when she got back. Beautiful colors. Do come back soon :)

Yes, he is driving to NS. Wish I could go too.

JD your pictures are gorgeous. Mind if we all live vicariously?

I got pictures taken of both our Arkansas Black apple and Asian pear trees both having clusters of fruit on them. The Asian pear has a leaf similar to the one in @superchemicalgirl's pictures. But even with the shorter growing season, I'm suspecting like mentioned the tree in question is a transplanted or wild seeded crab apple of some sort. I'll get the pictures uploaded in the morning. I just came in from cleaning the runs, or at least partially cleaning. I was able to get a lot of debris from winter out and things raked up to be shoveled out in the morning. Poor chickens have no complaints, bless em.
