The Old Folks Home

deb, That was a wonderful report about your grandma. Sounds like you found a great place for her to be.
One of my cousins went to visit her already.... Cousin is 90.... and Her caregiver is her Grand son. Cousin loved the place and when Grandma said she wanted to go home Cousin changed the subject.

Dang... Cousins name is Theda... :th Theda is sharp as a tack very much like Grandma was at that age.... they had a nice visit....

Mom and I are going up for her birthday on the sixteenth.

@perchie.girl

Even though she is having a great time and enjoying the best this place has to offer, don’t be surprised if she complains to you and your mom. That’s how these things often go.

Or if this is the honeymoon and she changes her mind and dislikes it. That’s common too.
Oh I would not be surprised if she does all that. We are going up for her birthday on the sixteenth. I expect to be hit up.... Though she may not remember who I am... I know she remembers mom... Funny thing that...

Oh and by the way did I mention that we live a long time on grandmas side of the family. Thats why at sixty four I opted for gastric sleeve surgery. But All her sixters lived into their nineties and some beyond. Even Grandpas family His sister Jo is in her nineties and still living on her own.

Grandmas nephew who lives in San Fransisco is just about two years younger than grandma. He came to visit... Big booming voice and details in the stories....

Alaskan is okay. I didn't notice the third fox (at top) with glasses right away either. I just heard there were 3 so I kept looking till I saw it. I haven't needed glasses because I have a near sighted eye and a far sighted eye - just like my mother. One takes over as needed.

@superchemicalgirl Love the fox quilt:love - even if it made me feel like an over-educated nerd.

I saw two foxes with glasses right away, and immediately started looking for #3, because art ("even numbers are boring"); even the Ikebana rule of earth, human and heaven came into play. I'm like, "geez, can't you just enjoy the whimsy without going all analytical?":th

Maybe my brain doesn't have enough to do . . . .:idunno

@superchemicalgirl, that fox quilt is simply darling.

@CapricornFarm, so sorry about the quail chicks. The poor little idiots just excell at offing themselves.

I'm having trouble with my bantam eggs. Did a quick candling last night. of three eggs due to hatch on Thursday, only two have survived and I'm not sure about one of them. I'll check it again tonight before locking them down tomorrow. Lots of dead chicks in the shell with them so I'm considering going back to hatching eggs from my larger girls which have few problems.

@perchie.girl, grammy is doing great and yes I agree with Clue. Expect her to whine a bit when you visit her. When all is said and done, the only thing we hang on to till the end is control over our own lives. Even as old as she is, she still is hanging on to whatever control over her environment that she can muster. Make sure she has lots of photo albums around and urge her to look at them and tell you about the people in the photos. And your cousin is right....diversion is your best approach right now.

When all else fails. Give her one of her favorite cookies and a cup of coffee! Walk around the facility with her. I would say from my own experience in the field that she is doing very well all things considered.

And remember. NO GUILT!

Going out to buy my birthday gift this morning. DH asked me what I wanted and I told him a table saw! He said that if that was what I wanted, that was what I shall have!:clap:love

I am trying to force myself to go outside and start working on a cage for the California valley quail. It is already mid 80s out there. And I am not fully awake. But I need to get them out of the brooder so the next batch can use it. Have to design something that will be hard for them to escape from. They are terrific fliers.
