The Old Folks Home

KDOG, IF you are using a cell phone, get a bluetooth earpiece. They're not overly expensive now, and work really great. IF you are using a conventional land line, they have a padded foam rest that attaches to the receiver, so you don't have to bend your neck so much. There are also headsets for both cell, and regular phones too.

Yeah.... I tend to do that. :lau

Had a couple other minor problems this week too that I made the mistake of Googling and freaked myself out. :lau

Turns out those were fine btw.

Definitely going to call the doctor though. Mostly just trying to think of possible reasons or see if I could try to prevent it or minimize it or whatever.

But going to call either way cause it’s really weird that it’s been going on so long now.

But I think mostly it’s from being on my phone so often. I mean, I’m literally like constantly on that thing and even right now, the angle I am holding it at is probably definitely not good for my wrists or my fingers for that matter. They’re all curled up under it all weird. And I’ve been having problems with those too.

I think it all traces back to the phone. My “screen time” stats are scary. :lau

He’s probably gonna say to just get off the dang phone haha

But maybe there’s something they can do to help it.

Definitely going to call when we get home tomorrow or maybe Tuesday.

Have to call a few other places anyway so I’ll do it at once maybe.
Googling symptoms on Google used to nearly always lead to cancer. It is getting better now though

I have carpal tunnel... doc ordered me a wrist protector... Pththt...
I go till I cant feel my index finger then I quit for a while....

I am a writer when not on line.... but when I transcribe I type about forty or fifty words a minute... Not super fast but fast enough for me... cant do that with a wrist protector on....

Actually I dont have issues when I am typing only when I am playing card games online... or working a puzzel. Thankfully after about two hundred puzzels i got bored with it.

I had surgery on both wrists, did a great job.

I wore the wrist braces at night. It seems I had a habit of folding my wrist and then sleeping on it. Of course, the 30 years of court stenography didn't help any. About two years after giving up the reporting the problem resolved itself. Haven't worn the wrist braces in a good long while.

:)

@KDDG331 not knowing is torture and can make you expect the worse.

I'm very careful about what sites I read for medical information. Mainly I read the Mayo Clinic's site and WebMD along with RXlist, the latter we used in our medical practice. I've noticed that a lot of the web hits you get are generally somebody trying to sell their magic cure for whatever ailes you.

And yes, smart phone usage where you are keeping your neck and upper back bent in the same position for extended periods of time can cause neck and back problems, not to mention wrist. Yep, doc will prolly say, get off the phone. But remember, you have to want to. He can't make you.

Great movie about the turkey. Nice to start the day with a laugh

@CapricornFarm, have fun building!

Yeah, that’s exactly it I think. I don’t know about a lot of stuff so my mind is free to fill in the blanks, usually with worry.

And yeah, I mainly read those ones too but even those sometimes when listing possible causes or whatever, it can go from pretty minor to something very serious very fast.

But yeah, it does seem there is a “cure” to everything these days. Usually at great expense.

And yeah, I’m sure that is the root of my problem. :/

I definitely want to use it less and always say I am going to but it is hard to actually do it.

But I am working on it slowly. Such as not just planting myself in one spot for hours, usually putting off doing things. Not on purpose, just sometimes get “stuck” when I’m meaning to go off somewhere or eat or drink or whatever. Sometimes I don’t eat or drink for hours after I wake up or I sit in my car places or in a chair before getting ready.

So working on doing stuff like that less lately and doing stuff I want to or need to do first before doing that.

Also might try putting the phone on the counter and using it that way instead of holding it at the angle I do which is probably horrible for my wrists and fingers. Might also use a tablet too. Mine has a keyboard case. Just need to find it.

Also don’t know if this will help but trying to sit up straighter and/or hold my phone in the air when using it.

Although I saw some article about horns growing on the back of people’s heads from phones and that kinda scared me as well as this one so I’m trying to work on it.

Thanks, those are all great options, but unfortunately this is all just recreational smartphone use and not phone calls. :hide

I carry it around/am on it like 24/7 :hide

Definitely need to work on it.

Also that’s only the phone, doesn’t include all the time I spend driving around or in restaurants/stores, or watching TV or Netflix.

It’s basically my entire life. I really need to get it together. :hide

I do at least take care of the chickens and the cat and the vegetable garden though and walk dogs/dog sit but still. I need more clients.

:lau yeah it can be dangerous Googling! But definitely better. I like that they now say how common it is, how treatable or long lived, etc. on conditions.

Only if using patient portal from Dr. can one have a diagnosis .. Hey good morning all

Very true. But sometimes some research can help some tings but of course not all.

Huh, that’s interesting it only bugs you sometimes.

I had surgery on both wrists, did a great job.

Hoping I don’t have to go that far.

They repaired my left dominant hand, had teacher of new method that did it. Right was marginal somehow they feel now the right has repaired itself left is great

I didn’t realize it could resolve itself. That’s good news. I wonder if mine can if I wear the braces and stop using the phone so much... I hope so. :fl

But of course I will call the doctor. We got home late today so I didn’t have a chance after checking the animals but definitely tomorrow.
