Hi everyone- I’m recovering from the anaplasmosis and sepsis. My doctor told me it would take a month and lo, I’ve lost most of September.

It’s a hard way to start retirement. I went from reveling in all the free time to seriously ill, to bored to tears. I feel like I should start over!

Love reading what you’re all up to. Hmm, watercolors. Might be something to try!

Chicken question:

I have 4 pullets, 3 of which are at POL. We got one egg so far, a sweet little one, about a week ago. I’ve had some trouble with the timer in my light, so it has been irregular. Also, finally got some oyster shell which they DEVOURED!

Should I worry about the lack of eggs? There is a hiding place where they could be, but the girls seem to understand the nest box. No poop in there, and the 3 big girls seem to like to go in and fluff around in the hay.

I forgot to mention! I’m treating with Corid now because somebody has puddle poops. There were some days while I was sick that the coop didn’t get cleaned and the waterer should have been washed. DH is a great guy but he has a poop phobia. So if they have coccidiosis could that mess up laying?

Love the old folks home. I can slip away and sleep a whole day and no one worries about it. They probably don't even know I'm missing

For first year pullets that start laying before the hours of daylight go below 12, they will usually keep laying that winter. The next winter they will need lights to keep laying.

You will likely get more eggs but not as many as spring-- maybe 2 or three eggs a week from each pullet

Oh my, that is a hard way to start retirement. I certainly hope you are soon able to get your retirement plans in gear. I am so busy since I "retired" until I just pass out at night. Retirement is the best part of life!

I live outside Wetumpka, Alabama. I plan to post photos of my chickens and already posted pics of my chicken setups in the intro so you can see them there but don't laugh. They are not too bad for the fabrication by an old woman... LOL!

Oh yes! Chickens are not too picky about their housing.
