The Old Folks Home

Very poor management down there years ago Ca wanted power from our dam projects that we get power from Tacoma had dams on Riffe lake and another on lake Mayfield
they maintain them the one on Riffe actually flooded the town of Riffe most of the houses where brought here to Mossyrock before it was flooded

That’s good most of the houses got moved and weren’t damaged! But still sucks it flooded.

Prime example of monopolies and companies not caring! :barnie

Also the duration says two hours but it took months to fully get the gas back!! The National Guard was going around handing out hot plates and space heaters for crying out loud! :barnie The governor declared it a state of emergency. You can read all about here and click to expand the details about certain parts if you’re interested. Although maybe this was already on the national news when it happened??

Also around here our cable/internet/phone company sucks! The TV is constantly going out lately and/or the internet barely works and it’s expensive as all get out! And you gotta jump through a million hoops on the phone trying to fix stuff. :barnie

Horrible customer service.

But they can get away with it cause they’re the main company here or even the only one in some areas. Although I think in our area we can get another company but it’s a pain to switch. We have everything on this one, are used to it, and mom has an email account with them (though no one else does) so we haven’t yet. And also most people are with this one. So they get away with it!

It’s ridiculous.

For control over utilities, we have a Public Utilities Commission. They have a Complaint Board. They have jurisdiction over land lines, electric, and water. They do listen to the consumers. Something like that would happen 1 time, and their switchboards would be lit up, both in the counties, and at the state capitol. Changes would be made, such as regulations about systematic scheduled upgrades, so the power didn't have to be turned off like that, (actually we already have that) OR there would be lots of free electric for consumers, after the power was restored, for the inconvenience they had to endure. In other words, they're going to pay one way, or the other, so they might as well spend the money on maintenance, and not inconvenience the customers. It's one thing to be out of power due to a major storm, or hurricane due to well maintained lines being pulled down by falling trees, or fluke things that happen. It's quite another when they won't spend some of their money to maintain the lines, and inconvenience their customers.

Edited to add, they even make the power companies trim the branches on trees where there are power lines.

I've got an upper respiratory infection, and it's just starting to push into the lungs. Dr. gave me medicine. Hopefully it will knock it out quickly. This upper respiratory stuff is going around.
Oh no! Hope you feel better soon!

Spent the day finishing up picking apples. DH started while I was at PT and power shopping yesterday and had a bushel done. We picked about another 80% shy of a bushel this morning. We don't spray our trees so it's a race to see who gets them first, the yellow jackets or us. We lost on one tree, one on another. For some reason they don't like the Arkansas Black apple tree. Maybe because the skins are so thick on those apples. I brought in a big kitty litter bucket of apples and we set this morning and peeled till our hands were tired. We wound up with half the bucket done and 5 quarts of apples for the freezer. We'll turn the other half of the bucket of apples into sauce tomorrow then see where we stand as far as our harvest is concerned. We'll share what we have left over with our neighbors and friends.

Other than that, temps down, raining for the next two days here. Temps on Friday night and Saturday night are expected to dip into the low 30s and hit freezing one night. So I'm trying to get my plants in. I also need to start covering some of the coop windows.

Stay warm and dry everyone!

@bruceha2000 saw some XXL gloves at the local Farm Bureau feed store the other day....So God really does make people with hands that big?!
