The Old Folks Home

I’m telling the truth on this. If everybody got enough exercise (and ate a decent diet, but the evidence for exercise is extremely strong), it would nearly put psychologists, psychiatrists, and counselors out of business. Really.

If you’re depressed you do have to force yourself (also known as doing something you don’t feel like doing, which is something we all have to do most every day), but taking a walk and picking up the pace a little more each day will do it.

Exercise is a wonder drug and if you exercise safely and carefully, zero side effects!

Yeeeeeahhhhh.... I’ve definitely been having a lot of problems forcing myself to do anything lately :lau

Okay had to pickup the speckled sussex we ordered but did big boo boo ordered 10 did not count saw the brown birds caught them oops have 15 not ten called said owe you for 5 more View attachment 1932262

They are very cute. :love

And that is great you called them back and paid for the others. I would have too probably but a lot of people would have just kept them and not said anything.

That is the truth, when I was very depressed years ago, the medication helped some but, when I added walking, I was doing great.

Yeah I definitely need to start walking more. I really never do or move much at all mostly :hide

Exercise is proven to release endorphins in the brain that give you a natural 'high'. I always felt better and more energetic after cycling 25 or 100 miles. Of course after riding 100 miles DH had to pick me up off of the grass where I had collapsed in the front yard, fill the tub with hot water and help me in so I could soak....once I regained feeling in and use of my legs, I felt great! :th25 is definitely an easier goal.;)

Yeah, when I do walk, I feel great but I just never really walk. Don’t really do much of anything actually :lau :hide

Except I’ve been dog sitting and walking more lately haha

Including this weekend. That’s helping.

Maybe I just need a dog :lau

Oh and 100 miles!? In one ride!? OMG!!

Yep. I only did that once or twice. My husband used to ride a 'century' what cyclists call a hundred mile ride, once a month. His longest run doing them was 80. He actually had 120 because he would sometimes ride more than one century a week. I used to do 50 miles pretty regularly but liked 25s and 10s the best. One week I rode 123 miles and DH and I used to commute to our office every morning on our bikes so we would do 11 miles a day.

The only thing I miss about IL is the paved back roads. None in Missouri.

OMG!!! That’s crazy! In a good way lol I just can’t believe anyone actually does that willingly and not only that but regularly! :ep :th that’s awesome you guys have something you love though. :love

And wow that’s awesome you lived so close to work!!

Aww they don’t have those!? That stinks. :(

Idk if we have what you guys would call backroads but there’s a lot of little quiet roads through towns and neighborhoods and such and some are pretty rural. It’s nice. :love

We actually have a lot of good walking areas right from my doorstep lol

Like no need to drive anywhere to walk.

So I really should start walking. :hide

Would be great for a dog too cause there’s some ponds and bogs and stuff too and a big huge field with a little beach in the back.

And a real beach 10 minutes drive away as well as the town forest maybe 5 minutes lol

I need a dog :hit

@KDOGG331 he also did some 24 hour races. If you think riding 100 miles is crazy, riding 24 goes beyond that. One race he rode 334 miles in 24 hours. He did something like 8 races like that. He says he always wanted to hit a goal of 400 miles but try as he might, he couldn't. He did a couple of races in Sebring Florida. Great venue as it is in February and it's a nice break from midwest winters.

Morning all! 32 degrees here right now. It's.....brisk outside! I hope the Old Farmer's Almanac is wrong about their prediction of a hard winter this year but usually it isn't this cold this early here so we shall see.
