The Old Folks Home

Choyote can be cooked two ways.... Sweet or Savory... Found a couple of good sites with info... But I may try adding it to my possiblities for growing at home.... One plant can provide fifty pounds. Its in the same family s squash and gourds. with a single seed in the middle.

You cut in half along the fold seam on the end Scoop the seed and the white pith out.... Some people then peel it and slice it and prepare it the way they like... Some people leave the skin on and cook it whole

One of the informative videos:

A Pourto Rican Recipe :drool

all parts of the plant are edible.... I need to research that as well.

That second one looks really good.

I'm going to have to start looking for it at Walmart or Hyvee when I'm there.
The more I am reading I am definately going to give growing it a try. It seems you can add it to any pie filling to extend it because it takes on the flavor of what ever surrounds it. You can use it in salads as well Par boiled and sliced and chilled It absorbs the vinegerette so toss it with the salad dressing before adding it to salads...

Very versitile... Low calory High fiber and minerals food extender.... Savory or sweet or spicy It loves it all.

Here I though Chili Rellano was just the name of the dish...

Rellano is filling and Chili is well chili....

So Chayote Rellano is squash filled with stuffing.

I soo need to learn more spanish. I can follow spanish speaking videos as long as they point to the food and name it ... but the video is useful too for preparation and times...

Walmart may be able to help you.... even if they dont normally carry it they have a huge storehouse base... Online or in house...

Tampa, for years was renown for it's hand rolled Cuban cigars, as well as it's Cuban, and Spanish restaurants, and food. Mexican restaurants have not been around here as long. Due to such a large Latino population, it's been commonplace for years for the grocery stores to carry a huge selection of ingredients, and items that are usually hard to come by in other areas. In addition, there are quite a few Latino grocery stores. I have a list of various ingredients I send in "care packages" to other family members living in other parts of the US. We have a large Asian community as well, and they too have several large grocery stores, making it easy to get a good selection of ingredients, and items used in preparing, and eating good Asian food.
same here as well but with more of a Pacific side of Mexican cuisine... Lots of seafoood and Native american dishes... Yaqui indians are part of Mexico so their influence as well.

Yep here You can find all sorts of small and large groceries: Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Middle eastern... You name it. Even some Turkish and Indian...

This storm was crazy :ep :th

https://www.boston.com/weather/weather/2019/10/17/observed-wind-gusts-storm-massachusetts

We got 80 MPH wind gusts and probably 1.5, 2 inches of rain.

Several trees down.

But we didn’t even get the worst of it. Docks broke loose or just plain broke. Boats on top of the marsh. Extremely high tide and flooding. Trees and branches down everywhere. Some on people’s houses and cars. We got lucky in that regard. Fences down. Numerous power outages. Etc.

We still haven’t gotten power back but we did get the generator up and running a couple hours ago so we have internet, TV, some lights, but most importantly the fridge. Not sure when power will be back. Over 200K without power in Massachusetts alone. It was down to about 150K but is increasing again for some reason. I think there’s another storm or more rain rolling in.

Here’s pics of the damage as well as the chickens enjoying all the bug filled rotten wood/leaf litter I gave them :lau
