The Old Folks Home

Doing great on Keto..and I always said it's like Atkins. I did Atkins back in the 70's. No sugars. No grains. My migraines have subside for sure. My Dr. did tell me to eat more fruit. My irregular heart beats are better. I've had two heart ablations, meds ..not for me .. they didn't dare do another ablation. My overall feeling is better than it was a year ago when I first started. My Dr. does blood work on me every 6 months. My liver, kidneys, sugars..are great. This has helped with my fibro.

I think the best thing for anyone is probably to try to just eat as healthy as possible and cut out or at least severely limit/reduce processed foods.

I’m of course still working on this. Not really succeeding.

But I’ve been trying to eat healthier and cook and eat vegetables from my own garden and eggs and healthy meats and stuff like that.

There’s lots that claim certain diets are best. There’s a lot of people who claim the Mediterranean diet is the healthiest overall.

I’m not really sure anyone knows for sure.

And I actually think it’s almost somewhat similar to Keto in that it places an emphasis on lots of healthy fats (olive oil, nuts, lots of fish, etc.) and I think limited carbs, only whole grains, some would probably say that counts keto.

I think even just eating a lot of vegetables and healthy meats is definitely a lot better and healthier, and probably easier for most people, than trying to stick to one specific diet or plan or whatever.

Paleo is another huge one that people swear up and down by.

All I know is for me I think cutting out bread and sugar will be huge but I haven’t quite gotten there yet.

But I think that alone would be huge for most people.

IT is a process to eat healthier. We are faced with terrible food every day. I dont allow my kids to eat school lunches... it was pizza twice a week. Juice and milk.

We stopped the juice and milk thing long ago. Water and cheese is seemed a better choice.

This is the little bit I know about the Mediterranean diet. Mediterranean diet is a bit of a fallacy. When the study was done, it happened to co-incide with some month long tradition and the foods were a bit different than normal fare. Having said that, it is FAR FAR better than SAD. They also have better controls on herbicides and pesticides, and eat more grass fed dairy and meats and more fish. More locally grown fresh produce.

Changing our diet is a process, I eat closer to paleo now, but cant quite give up cheese and sour cream. THough cheese consumption is way down; tend to look for European cheeses. Deli meats are a thing of the past; bacon and ham, occasionally, far less than before.

Lots of herbs. And spices. THose I have totally embraced!!

Breads. I stopped baking bread almost 20 years ago. I could polish off a whole load all by myself if smothered in butter! Real butter. lol I learned bread is more addictive than cocaine..... there was a study on it. TOtally explained my addiction.

Sugar. We cut way back--- mostly decreasing the foods that needed sugar. Stopped baking. We had become accustomed to eating a sweet every day. Sooo, I stopped baking for the kids. Oddly, they have not complained. THough they do get a LC dessert now and then, and crap out side the house. lol

Atkins really stuck to his guns. THese days " atkins" is vilified and using keto or low carb gets less negative reactions. lol

Great that your liver is in good shape. Fatty liver is rather common now. ANd it starts to malfunctiona a bit; all fixable with diet.

Do you take magnesium or potassium? I mean enough to meat our daily requirements?

CAC is a test often looked at to determine how our arteries are doing. Better than cholesterol, LDL, HDL. CAC is a direct look at the coronary arteries.

I tried taking the magnesium. Had to stop. I was running to the potty room to much. :D. I'm good at taking my..ahem..over 60 for women vitamins. Plus, I have to take an extra Vitamin D a day. I have osteoporosis in my back. My doc watches everything pretty good, including vitamins. I take extra B12..with iron. I used to have to go in for iron shots. Capsules..better. :) .I give myself the B12 shots every 2 weeks.

Maybe I should try it...

Get lots of headaches and stuff still hah

I just "got" what pumpkin spice food is!!! Heard it this morning when the ingredients were listed. I'd always thought it had pumpkin in it and some spices, that seemed odd in many "pumpkin spice" foods. (I'm in need a DOH! emoji).

I still don’t know exactly what it is ha
