The Old Folks Home

Yes definitely! And that’s what I keep telling myself but it’s just shocking cause I always used to eat this stuff. Even Milanos I’m like “too chocolatey now”.

And the funny thing too is now I instantly get a headache from the salt, the chocolate, etc. instantly feel it. Not necessarily a migraine but not only does it just taste disgusting (too salty) to me but I instantly feel it in my head now too.

Although the migraines have been way less even almost totally gone since taking those vitamins and a multivitamin thing.

Although this week I did have a few pretty bad ones for the first time in a little while but it’s also that time.

Otherwise, normally when I would get one, I don’t, or I’ll just get like maybe a little tension in he head or something temporarily but not a full one. So much improved. Which I’m glad about.

And honestly even if I still get them around that time but no other times, that’s still a vast improvement from what it’s been lately.

I’ve yet to test concerts though and what it’s like there. That’s usually another major one for me. Not sure it will change but maybe.

Although honestly I’m not even sure if it’s the vitamins reducing them or just the fact that I have been eating way healthier and exercising more/being on my phone less. Maybe a combination of all of it.
It can take some time for the benefits to kick in from lowering salt and getting more nutrition from healthy eating. Hang in there!

Like drinking diet pepsi and eating a Hershey big block bar or drinking skim milk and eating a donut!:lau
Oh, I don't drink diet Pepsi either. Artificial sweeteners taste awful. Better to just drink water.

I’m so lucky I don’t like things that are too sweet. I adore chocolate, but I prefer it dark and somewhat bitter. I detest coffee or tea with added sugar (or stevia/saccharine/ aspartame etc). I’m not above putting in some half and half, though.

I drink mostly water and seltzer. some tea in the morning, and often a beer in the evening. Sometimes a glass of wine. I just keep trying to cut back on beef and increase vegetables and fruit. If I can do that, I should be able to keep making my diet more healthy!

I unfortunately have a major sweet tooth. :(

And lately I’ve been sautéing chicken with vegetables and that’s really fast and easy and I like it. Mixes it up from beef while also adding more veggies. I usually do some sort of green like spinach or kale or both and something else like bell peppers or squash or sweet potato or something. I like to do it just with olive oil and in the same pan but you could cook it separately and/or with other spices. I also sometimes like to turn it down and/or cover it and simmer it a bit. Can cook some pasta with it too though usually lately I try not to just cause I’m trying to eat too much wheat/bread/carbs/that stuff haha

Oh and I usually add garlic too and sometimes onion. I don’t add salt and pepper till afterwards, like on my own plate, but could add it to the pan haha

I also like eating bison burger lately and I’m sure they probably sell roasts and stuff too. Actually, there is a great wild game place right in New Hampshire. They have all sorts of cool meats. Might be worth checking out sometime. I’ll try to find the name of it.

But even just bison you can find in most grocery stores now, even Wal-Mart, for pretty cheap and it’s similar to beef but healthier. Might help you to reduce/cut back.

Or maybe lamb or fish or something? I’ve never had lamb I don’t think so can’t say what it’s similar to in taste. Probably completely different haha

I don’t usually like most raw vegetables or salads or anything like that but I find cooking them makes them much better and tastier haha I usually sauté just because it’s easier for me and fastest but could also steam (probably healthiest), bake, grill, etc.

Also I don’t like raw bell peppers but I find when they’re sautéed/simmered they get real sweet and soft and delicious :love

Also sometimes I like eating fruit in the mornings lately. I used to buy goats milk yogurt from our grocery store and put fruit and honey in it for breakfast and it was delicious. :love :drool

But lately I’ve been trying not to eat dairy either and last time I ate it I got sick which scared me off it haha but it’s good stuff. Regular yogurt or Greek would work too.

I also sometimes just like eating fruit and adding whipped cream to it in the evenings/nights instead of dessert or a sweet snack. Gives the sweet taste but still fairly healthy.

I personally love berries but any kind of fruit would probably work.

I also like making smoothies sometimes but haven’t been doing that much lately, hard without the dairy in it haha but I sometimes add yogurt, fruit (usually banana and/or berries), some sort of greens like spinach or kale or something, and I usually add honey and/or protein powder too. It’s fast and gets veggies and fruits in one haha

But I usually just try to make scrambled eggs or an omelette in the morning and then sauté some spinach or something to go with it. Sometimes I do the pepper in the morning too or sweet potato haha and at night I’ve been doing something in the pan. Though the last two days I’ve been pretty bad :lau :hide

@perchie.girl I'm so sorry you were tired and not able to enjoy the wonderful meal you prepared. Try not to hold it against yourself or get discouraged. This too shall pass. You are doing GREAT and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Keep up the good work.

Okay, everyone. One holiday down two more to go! Bring on Christmas!

Thanks I slept till eleven am... I went to bed at about seven thirty and about every two hours got up staggered in and ate a few bites of my turkey plate. I finished it this morning while clearing dishes to put in the sink.

I learned alot about cooking on this meal... Stuff that I would like taste wise not so much By Mom and Dean They said they liked it and put some on their plates... But i saw it get pushed around and left. Not offended.

I like seasoning not dumped on with salt and pepper. The stuff I did over season mom loved.... Dean doesnt like Turkey and I expected that. I saw him feed his to the dog.... LOL. The Dressing was a big hit and so was the mushroom gravy.

We all forgot the Cranberry sauce... I am going to have some today with celery and a very small slice of sour dough.

I am not going to to a feast for Christmas. I am going to make Turkey stock again with the other half of the turkey, Instead. I have cheesecloth bags to put the meat in so I can pull it out when the meat is done and Pull the meat off for canning Then the bones and Stock Veg and Refrigerator bones will go in for the rest of the stock. I want it to be full of gelatin.

I have a small Prime rib in the freezer and if its not too freezer burned I will make that for Christmas. That Cranberry Sauce and mashed potatoes. and I will call Christmas done.

New years I plan to a big pot of either Pinto Beans Or Black eyed peas. I have a couple of ham hocks for that. I may make cornbread... to go with it. Along with some Cranberry Chutney, I am interested in the recipe...

I have a ham I may give that a go.... Mom used to make it with Cloves put in scored skin and some brown sugar on it.... She loves skin on hams. So consider that a swap out for either the prime rib or the beans.

If I do ham on new years I definately will do Blackeyed peas as a side dish. Most likely Canned and seasoned with salt pork

I will buy Cornbread.

So what is everybody creating out of your leftover turkey?

A breast and two people is still A LOT of turkey, so we're turkey tetrazzini tonight and turkey tacos tomorrow. Hoping not to take any back home with us.
Like Rolled tacos with a bit of turkey meat and Onions inside. Sweet and savory and corn tacos lend to that flavor... Best thing is its finger food... Served with some left over ...What evers.... LOL.

Turkey Omelette for dinner Diced turkey sauteed with some onions fill the omlette and add a bit of sour cream or cheese. I like sliced up avocado as well but If you are not a fan Just skip it. Oh and here we can get it year round.

Add a glass of buttermilk if you like it and call it dinner.... I like buttermilk with salt and pepper in it.... :drool

Turkey stew... Braise some diced Carrots onions and celery in some stock and When they are tender add in cubed up Turkey till it heats up. You can thicknen it a little and serve over egg noodles.

Or instead of thickening it mix in some sour cream and serve over egg noodles.

Turkey chili... Make chili beans and instead of meat add in diced turkey... That is really good in an omelette too.

Oh and Try Plain Greek yogurt with peeled shredded cucumber and crushed garlic and some dill Mixed in and maybe some oregano... A little pepper too. then mix in Cubed turkey and serve it on a bed of Greens... Drizzle a little olive oil and a squeeze of Lemon on the greens first....

Low fat high protien LOTS and LOTS of taste...

To me If you are going to use an oil use a good one like Extra virgin olive oil in a salad dressing then you get the taste and you dont have to use very much.

When I used to diet I used Lemon juice and Soy and And Good olive oil... each drizzled on the salad... so when you took a bite you never new what it was going to taste like. I could do that in a restaraunt as well. Ask for the soy they will have it I guarantee it Same goes for Lemon and Vinegar and oil.

I do the same over cottage cheese because I like the taste.
