The Old Folks Home

One interesting thing happened today. We were out working on one of our radio antennas. When we have it done it will be 1/2 mile wire loop antenna that is being hung from our trees. We were down by our pond and here comes Buck, our hound mix, dragging what looked like what was left of a deer carcass. he was happy as only a dog can be when it's found something gross to chew on.

Sure enough, it was a fawn's remains. The little hooves were about an inch long so it didn't survive long after birth. Probably from last year as all that was left was the little things legs and spine. So sad. Does don't start dropping fawns until next month into June so we don't have any idea what happened or when.
That is weird for sure

It's not the first time we've found dead fawns here. about 7 years ago I heard one of the dogs barking and went out to see what was up. There was a dead fawn laying at the edge of the yard. All curled up like they do when their mom leaves them and they are trying to be invisible. It looked perfectly alive...yet it wasn't. The only marks on it was a set of large fang punctures on top of it's head. Undoubtedly that was the cause of death. As it wasn't there the night before and the dog that found it was our smallest at the time, I suspect the great Pyrenees next door that was guarding the sheep being pastured there got a hold on it and it escaped to our yard. The fang marks were huge. It could have even been a coyote.

Some just don't make it. But I suspect that if it was a yote, it wouldn't have gotten away in one piece.

The pipe exits the earth over a ravine some distance away from the house.
:sick
I hope there aren't any streams running through those ravines though I'd be real surprised to find that to be the case.

But if you don't buy new cars every year and drive used vehicles, tractors, etc, you don't pay much.
Sounds like a good way for the state to decrease sales of new vehicles and other equipment. But you have to pay taxes on all those things every year, right?

Finally figured it out, have to be ON a thread for it to work. When first logging on I just get this;
You don't need to be on a thread, just click on Forums from the home page and then select Watched threads from the drop down.

I put new batteries in the game camera last night, didn't set the trap but it is in the box. Camera worked fine even though it was 7°F so I guess it just doesn't like batteries with 30%+ power left.

Well cr@p. Lots of videos with rats all night. One seems to have a light streak on its left flank. A couple of other videos with 2 rats at the same time and neither has that light streak. So while I've done in 3 rats, at best that was half the population. These are all full grown as well.
