The Old Folks Home

I love the Saf Insta Yeast in the big one pound packages. Best buy for it that I've found since our Amish grocery store closed is on Amazon. My bread recipe uses 1.5 tablespoons of yeast so I make sure to always replace one when I get half through a package. That way I never run out.

My big tip is to buy 10 pound bags of four and stick them in the freezer for 48 hours. You will never have a meal worm. I do it with everything from flour to rice, even beans. Jiffy Mixes, cake mixes, oatmeal, grits. Anything that has the potential to get creepy crawlies in it gets frozen then dumped into canisters with snap on lids. I actually store my flour in those big 4 gallon kitty litter buckets that have been cleaned, sanitized and aired out till there is no more scent to them. Then to make sure I wipe them down with vinegar, rinse them again, dry thoroughly, air again and then use them. They stack in your pantry for easy access.

I'm supposed to go to the doctor's next week for my quarterly pain assessment. I won't even go there but I'm seriously watching things around us to see if it's worth the risk. I have a respirator mask along with a gillion surgical masks. They have N95s there but it's like playing Russian Roulette with a revolver loaded with 4 out of 5 bullets.

The odds are NEVER in your favor.

Good tip on freezing!

I have two tupperware flour canisters form the 1980s for flour. I have never had worms in them.

They go get into other grains though

You can freeze those also, Ron. I do. We eat a lot of rice after it gets the 48 hour freezer treatment tho. Pancake mix...freeze it also.

Last year I discovered that some bulk flour that I had bought from the local Amish store had critters in it. Chickens loved them. I wasn't too overjoyed as they had migrated through my cupboard. I had gotten lazy and hadn't given a bag of whole wheat flour the freezer treatment. Luckily I had my bread flour stored in my pantry cupboard and it always gets the freezer treatment.

@penny1960, Smudge is an Excellent name. I second the vote.

Yeah, I have been taking it easy. Today I made the window frame for the left side of the play house, as well as for the front window where the nest box will go.
I put the door on hinges, and installed the screen in the right hand side window. You can see the former door sitting in front of the playhouse. It's too small to keep varmints out. 20200310_160300.jpg

Ok, here's one for you. Never got a phone call back about that ultra sound for his prostate...I noticed I posted the wrong thing back there! Fixed it! His prostate in question because it's doubled in size this past year. Anyway, I call the office to see if I could get results. A girl calls back ..sounds like she may have bad news because she keeps hesitating. Finally she says,. they did an ultrasound in the wrong area. They did his testicles. 😳. Now the Dr wants it done right of course. Poor Scott will go in again. He's embarrassed with these ultra sounds. And, who's got to pay for that mistake? Not us! Thing is, it will be mostly covered by ins. 🙄 And I mean mostly.
