The Old Folks Home

No lock down here in MO but IL to our east is. I wish they would do a lock down but they say there aren't enough cases yet and true, most of the cases to be found are in the southern part of the state where the population is denser. I guess we are lucky that way to be where we are.

But the Amish are completely clueless....that worries me.

@CapricornFarm how did you get the orchid to bloom? Everything I've heard about them is that they are so hard to keep alive yet along coax them into blooming.
There is orchid food but I have never kept them. They do need warmer temperatures. San Diego is close but not warm enough to be outside. and you do need to be careful not to over water.

Thats it all I know. I am sure Cap will know more.

I'm glad that they have found something. Truth about hydrochloroquine aka placquinil is that it's one tough you know what drug that is really hard on a person's body.

I'm very proud of my husband. He has been invited to join a think tank that is developing a single patient use ventilator that can be used on coronavirus patients if regular ventilators are not available. He is gifted with electronics and has designed and used a 3D printer to develop an electronic Morse Code key for Ham radio use.

I've seen the preliminary design the group has developed and it's frankly incredible.

Orchids are actually very easy.

Orchids are mostly in 2 groups, most originally grew on trees, and a few on the ground.

The tree ones are used to crazy good drainage, which is why it is so easy to overwater them. They are best planted in chunky wood chips or porous rock where the water can rush through.

Then...as to temp...you have to know what temp your house tends to be at, and then look at an orchid list, and pick the orchid type that grows in your house temps.

Each kind needs to be in a specific temp range.

The Phalaenopsis is seen as an easy orchid since the temps it likes are the same as most house temps.

But... if you have a cooler than average house, pick an orchid that likes cooler temps, etc.

That is really the only other "tricky" part either orchids, you have to make sure that their needs match the environment you want to stick them in.

So, you can find an orchid to match your cold north facing bathroom (I think @sourland has some... vandas?? in a north facing bathroom), or whatever...
