The Old Folks Home

Yesterday, I put the chicks I got from Alabama, out in one of the bachelor pads. I checked on them several times throughout the day, and they were fine. I checked on them just before the sun went down. It rained last night, so I let them be. This morning, they are doing just fine. They seem very happy.

I had moved my noisiest rooster into the bachelor pad next to them. I knew he would sound the alarm, if anything was out of the ordinary during the night. All was well. No crowing until 5:30 this morning, which is normal time for them.

The lone duckling is going into a bigger tote today. It's grown quite a bit, since the day it arrived. It's feathers are starting to come in nicely. I've been looking into stock tanks, and filtration systems, vs a kiddie pool, and thinking about what section of real estate to give it in the coop.

Lots of big poultry things going in there!

I bought a cricut maker a month ago. And so far I've only made a couple things. But I have a ton of ideas. Lol

Do any of you do anything with a cricut?

Been out in the yard harvesting lettuce. It has gotten hot here and the heads are starting to get leggy, which means reach-for-the-sky bolting is in the very near future. I set the coffee on, harvest, and then enjoy a nice cup of motivation as I sort and rinse

Yesterday morning I watered my beautiful bell pepper transplants and at sunset came back to this...

A naked stalk with a pile of leaves at the bottom. wth?? Set out all sorts of traps and put up bird tape. Nothing in the traps in the morning. The next afternoon there was this... The culprits were operating in broad daylight. Guess what was decimating my peppers?

ANTS! (The big black kind that when they bite it hurts like heck and leaves a welt.) Who knew?

The varmints in the garden have been rather vexing this year.

Weird!

What do you use to stop the ants?
