The Old Folks Home

HOT here today. 91. Won't even look at the heat index. DH and I went down to the timber this morning and after loading the tractor bucket with wood and finishing chaining a downed tree we looked at one another and decided that was it for the day. It was just too miserable there to hang around.

We did have something cool happen. Our trail runs along a deep ravine. Today, making our way down that trail, a big doe jumps up out of the ravine. usually they run like Elmer Fudd is after them with his trusty wifle never to be seen again but not today. The doe ran about ten feet, stopped, turned and looked at us. You could tell she was trying to figure out what we were, what the tractor was and why we were disturbing her beauty rest. She had a tuft of grass sticking out of her mouth and just watched us. No fear, no panic, she was still checking us out as we made our way away from her. I speculate that she must have had a fawn nearby but idunno. Sure was cool though.

How very cool .. We have deer that come in to eat apples in the chicken yard.
He was talking he wants to fix the fence up there so they cannot .. I would rather not and told him so :gig

That's what I figure also, Ron. I've been seeing fawn tracks in the sand. I startled a doe in the same area last week. She didn't run very far either, just stood, stared at me and did that weird wheeze and snort that they do when they are alarmed. Might have been the same doe.
We had Killdeer birds that would do protective things for the chicks in the nest. They would run in circles, pretend that they were injured and if you got close to them fly a bit.

It was impressive to see!

Good morning OF.
Coffee this morning is a necessity! Going to T-town to get fitted for the heart monitor this afternoon.
It seems like that took quite a while to get done!
I hope it gets some answers for you

A close up of the Guardian Oak
Maybe photographic compression but if those small diameter trees are as close to it as they look to be, maybe take them down to give the guardian space.

I'm not sure what the white flower is
Looks kinda sorta daisy like?

No it isn't, no matter your age. Lost my mom to cancer in 84, she was just shy of 55.
Too early for both of you!

Thanks, poor MIL didn't want to put him in a nursing home. She did all she could, but it got to the point where he couldn't walk so she had to.
That is the sad path many end up having to take. Same was true of my maternal grandmother who lived for some years with my mom and step-dad.

Trees though, make it much easier to feel secluded, which is nice.
You mean it is hard to hide when you can see 100 miles in every direction?

I told them to reach out and wiggle their fingers. And they did. And all the poults came running to them!
How many fingers were lost when the poults ate those "worms" ;)

Hi folks, it turns out I do have Scleroderma. So they want a chest CT. Etc.
:( We, like you, were hoping for a negative result. I guess the "up" side is you do know what it is and can treat it as much as possible.
