The Old Folks Home

Good news there, Diva. Must be a relief!

Saw getaclue's post and had to read a ways to realize that a SSD was not some kind of dog. Mea culpa. I am definitely not as tech-savvy as most here.

Monsoon season is trying to work its magic here. What's noticeable is the high humidity. We had a nice shower last night, so the weeds are easy to pull today. I enjoy weeding about as much as I do housework. (bleh) But I realize it's a necessary evil if I am to harvest veggies and not go on an expedition hunt for them. It's a love/hate relationship with the veggie compound. All the varminting this year was really discouraging. BUT things are starting to sprout and grow (again), so in about a month I hope to be a happy camper with the greening out there.

I planted three different kinds of kohlrabi and the Purple Viennese and White Viennese bulbed up and did their proper thing. The third is supposedly a giant bulbing type, but all we've seen is mounds of greenery (which is edible, thankfully.) All that has been harvested lately is lots and lots of greens...and will be for a while.

The chickens are doing great. I'm thinking of branching out and adding some Dampierre to the mix. Something about French breeds appeal to me and I'm a sucker for splashes.

That's about all that's new here. Just trying to stay healthy, which will be easy as our Gov is rescinding our Covid privileges. I feel like being grounded is on the horizon again. We are mandatory masks (even when exercising), no indoor dining, and visitors to our state must quarantine for 14 days and not visit our State parks. Thank goodness for streaming TV!

Has anybody discovered their nap quotient has gone up during this time of Covid?
I am working remotely so can't take a nap! I am supposed to respond to emails within 10 minutes.

I hope the new infections and deaths will be under control soon!

Dh just installed a new rear case fan in my computer. The old one was turning, but very slowly. It was on it's way out. The new one is working fine. Right after cost vs bang for buck, the next consideration in picking components was heat. I did not want to have to go to liquid cooling. I have a HAF (high air flow) tower with 4 large, fans. I got it years ago, but it turned out to be such a good model, and worked so well, it became one of the top sellers. The manufacturer still makes, and sells the same model today.

Temp is 91 here right now with the heat index at 105 and humidity at 64%. I ran out and set up a fan in the coop doorway for the chickens.

My little half Fayoumi, half BBR OEGB cockerel is still causing me fits. Last night I put him back in the coop with his family and he immediately began to fight with his brother again. Little brother tried to hid behind the feeder canister and discovered that the only thing he could hide was his head. Trouble as I have named him, is back in the broody buster pen again. If he wasn't so darned cute I'd be more upset with him than I am.

They are almost 7 weeks old now and their gender is obvious. One Fayoumi cockerel, one Fayoumi pullet, one half Fayoumi half OEGB cockerel and one half Fayoumi half OEGB pullet. Oh, and one pure bred SDW OEGB pullet. In the second group, Two SDW OEGB cockerels and 1 BBR pullet.

4 cockerels and 3 pullets....I've had worse hatches so I can live with that percentage.

 Are you staffing some emergency admissions or examinations account? Nothing in academia is done in 10 minutes in my experience :p. The job is about consideration, not haste, isn't it?
The boss does not believe in remote work-- but I am IT so some things are time critical, especially if Zoom is not working for a meeting or class

We are still fairly cool today. The high will be 96F today.

I did pick blackberries this morning while it was cool though

I hope the fans do not make too much noise though!

We planted between 60 and 75 hybrid thornless triple crown blackberries. 5 years later, all gone to hard winter freezes and snow. They were supposed to be hardy to zone 5. We are 6b here so I don't know what happened to them. The best years harvest was over 50 pounds. We had two wineries wanting to buy from us....oh well.

Meanwhile....back in the timber....the wild blackberries and raspberries are going to have a bumper crop. IF I can beat the deer and raccoons to them!
