The Old Folks Home

Talking of cool ancestors, I have a (add a bunch of greats) grandfather that was German, but was a mercenary under napoleon, and then, after losing at Waterloo had to run like the Dickens to not get killed for treason. He made it onto a neutral ship (I think dutch) with the prussians in hot pursuit.

He then hightailed it to Texas, which was, I think, Mexican at the time. Later on he managed to sneak back to Europe and bring back to Texas a bunch of cool loot (piano, books, paintings) but everything was burnt and lost when Santa Ana's army came through and that part of Mexico became Texas.

Put him into a deep depression, especially the loss of the books.

My Fathers side goes back to the early 1700s when the first one made it here. My Mothers side seems to go back a bit to Ireland in the mid 1800s.

It is hard to find information when you hit Europe
I think about the earliest we can get is late 1600s early 1700s but I’m not entirely sure. My mom’s side I think is German and Irish but I’m not really sure. I think my Nana’s mother was German or something. My grandpa is English and maybe Dutch? My dad’s side is also Irish or English I think and my grandma was also half Portuguese but she hid it for a long time.

You have to watch that Irish blood! I was told that I was half German and half Irish. It turns out that I am 15% German\French, 4% Swiss and the rest Irish and British!

The German men kept marrying Irish women LOL!

But if you talk to your sourdough starter and it talks back that is OK since it is alive :D

That's pretty cool!

My mother's mother and her father went from Barcelona to Guadalajara Mexico. He went to S.F. after the earthquake and fire to help rebuild. I think my grandmother was 3 or 4 and was left at a convent to be cared for. I'm not sure when they moved up to Los Angeles so I don't know if she was in So. Cal or Mexico when he was in SF.

And your daughters can join the DAR. Of my grandparents only my maternal grandfather was not born in Spain. Springfield IL actually. His lines go back to the 1600's, mostly from England. Definitely some Revolutionary war soldiers. Captain Amos Joy is buried in Putney, VT next to his wife in the Dipping Hole cemetery. I went there a few years ago and found the markers. They had moved up to Putney (or 'removed to' as they said then) from Rehoboth, MA. One of his grand daughters was my grandfather's grandmother. Her brother was born in Putney but the family moved to Ohio (I think) a couple of years before she was born in 1818.

DW has found out that the manager is negative. Waiting to hear from the co-worker but that makes us much less likely to be in the line of infection.
It sure is!!! There was an article in the Smithsonian several years ago I think.

And a lot of my dad’s family is buried in Maine.

His family has been in New England for like forever haha at least since late 1600s early 1700s I think but I’m not sure where they were originally from. I think there were some relatives up in the Isle of Shoals but I’m not really sure.

Oh wow!!! That’s so interesting haha I would love to get an actual DNA test or something done sometime! :D

They can be pretty vague. Mine said so much Eastern European, so much Western European etc.
If you used Ancestry, check again. They have refined their results and they will even pinpoint where you are from in an area.

We cannot get our teeth cleaned here. Only emergency dentistry is allowed
I know this is older, got my teeth cleaned! Had to answer a lot of questions and the entire staff were dressed like something out of a movie. Turns out I also broke a tooth. (Hit by a shovel...)

Edit: I'd like to clarify I am alright, I hit myself in the face.

Okay... I'm safe from others but not myself.
