The Old Folks Home

All the men in this section we live in, are doing things outside this weekend. There's a reason.

Across the road from me, are 3 adjoining parcels of land, totaling 20 acres. Each of the 3 parcels has a designated county easement, for ingress/egress. 1 man bought all of it. The back 5 acres are on a main road, so he built a home on it. The remaining 15 acres is mostly blank land, with a couple long, narrow ponds which he used for watering his horses. The easement to each parcel was never a cause for concern, since he owned it all, and from his home driveway, could access the entire property. He got too old to care for the horses, so he sold them. He then turned the 15 acres into a working hay farm. He made enough selling hay, to pay for the land, and the taxes. He got cancer, and couldn't work the hay farm, so he bought a beachfront condo for him, and his wife. (Yeah, the old man was loaded). When he died, his kids inherited a big, successful agribusiness, along with several other parcels of land. His wife got the condo, and his brother got the 20 acres across the road.

The brother began trying to sell the property all together. He was asking way too much for it, so it sat. Finally, he decided to sell the back 5 acres with the house on it. It finally sold. That's when the brother discovered that due to the easement never having been used as such, no permits had been pulled to put in the culverts to make the driveways. He suddenly had no legal access to the property. He was asking over a million dollars for the remaining 15 acres, which is WAY too much. The neighbors on this side of the road, had asked if he would divide it into 3 - 5 acre parcels, and sell it at market price. On this side of the road, we have driveways, and access to the property, so that's not an issue. He wanted no less than $350,000.00 per 5 acres, on blank land. He's out of his mind. Even his own grown children told him his pricing was way out of line. They hired a professional to come survey, and assess the property value. The old man wouldn't budge on price. It sat.

A few weeks ago, someone put a travel trailer on the property. No hook ups, just the trailer. Every weekend since then, a younger man, and his buddy have come out to the property, working on the trailer. Everyone saw that something was going on at the main roads, but didn't pay a lot of attention to it. Their focus was on the travel trailer, and the guys working on the travel trailer. Well, they got the permits, had the large concrete culverts delivered, put them in, covered them with dirt, and gravel. Now they have access from the road onto the property.

Yesterday, they began taking out the old fence posts, and fencing. Now it's serious! The neighborhood is abuzz. One of the neighbors talked to them, and it seems they bought 4 acres to build a home on. They got it for $58,000.00 BUT they had to put in the culverts, and both driveways, and re-do the fence lines to get it at that price. Another neighbor remembered the man's name that bought the property. He texted it to Dh. Last night Dh was running background checks, and looking at where they lived before, including looking at their place on Google.

No arrests, no complaints about them, it looks like they kept their former home up very nice, and they own a couple nice big John Deere tractors. They've got his seal of approval. He went down earlier to report his findings to the rest of the gang, all on their tractors, at their favorite meeting spot. They're worse than women. A bunch of yentas.
