The Old Folks Home

It was 69 when I got up this morning and 39 now. Reality has slapped us up alongside our heads. Uggghhh

Caught up on my sleep this afternoon after it raining all morning. I didn't even let the birds out today. I've noticed that they will stand out all day in a light rain but let wind hit them and they head for the coop. We had gusts to 36 today but I swear there were higher ones here as at one point DH and I were scrambling to tighten up the guy wires on our 60 foot 2 meter antenna as it was double over and threatening to come down after a particularly strong gust.

I think the birds were glad to see me. I have two little bantam pullets, one a BBR and the other a SDW who are at POL but not laying yet who are just hormonally needy right now and are hanging on me the minute I walk into the coop. My husband is always saying 'what took you so long?' I tell him, well, I had to stop and pet and cuddle two little hens who are struggling with growing up, then there is Izzy, who is a SDW God only knows cross cockerel who insists on being held and cuddled along with the two little hens, then there is the blind rooster that I have to help down from his favorite nesting box and show him where his food and water are......at that point he's saying 'never mind'.

Truth is, I enjoy socializing with the flock. They are all nice birds, even my bachelors, and always happy to see the treat lady show up with a couple slices of bread, some bruised fruit and some scratch grain for them to enjoy along with their feed and water.

Plus...thy can't give me Covid!
