The Old Folks Home

Good morning, OF. Looks like bad weather throughout much of the country. Be safe.

Cap, so sorry that you have to deal with this.
Thanks Sour, hubby arranged to rent a car until ours get repaired. Sadly, my frozen treats are all melted. No water , except what we have in the big white storage bins that gets collected by the gutters. We do have bottled water for drinking. I barely slept last night because I kept waking up to put more wood on the fire. My living room has 4 bins of chicks .... ice falling from the trees now. There are at least 5 trees down. Hubby got the tree cut up that was on top of our vehicles. I really miss electric power.

Will the insurance remove the tree?
I was closer I'd do it for you.

That is if I get to keep the firewood... I'm kidding I would do it anyway .
You would be welcome to the wood, we don't burn pine except in bonfires. I was Wishing I had a sawmill to make lumber out of it.

The power was out from Tuesday to Saturday a couple of weeks ago. Many are turning in claims to PGandE for spoiled food and hotel stays

CSolis -- When I was raising meat birds they were fed alfalfa flakes regularly. Alfalfa has purifying (antioxidant) agents and it did make the meat taste better, IMHO. Also it helped to strengthen the tendons in the birds (Calcium/Phosphorus ratio) so that there was less loss due to tendon slippage. Just had to remember to provide grit or the crops ran a risk of getting impacted with fiber.
A day or three late. of course, but... just found out my doing a search you can actually make Alfalfa 'tea' for your birds if they won't eat pellets or mush. I'm going to do an experiment and put a container of tea out next to the water container and see how it goes.

We have this old upright freezer in the cat room yup put her there was in the laundry room but bought a new fridge with ice 2 years ago moved the old fridge to the laundry .. Freezer to the cat room okay wandered enough ... defrosting the old girl .. Okay no comments about me saing their alive

I want to hear about that. :pop

What are the benefits to alfalfa? I have a bit in the garden (or will when it's summer again), and have given the chickens clippings of it. They ate it, but they DEVOUR the weed plantain. I come in the run with that, and they are right there!

They know what's good for them; plantain is a very nutritious weed. It contains vitamins A, B, C, K, fibre, fat, protein (esp the seeds), silicon, calcium, sodium, zinc, tannin and mucilage. The leaves, flowers, and seeds are edible by humans. The seeds used to be collected to feed caged birds.
